The stay at 白沙古镇 Báishā Gǔchéng Baisha Old Town is the snow-view room. 白沙 Báishā – the village where the Naxi first settled on the Lijiang plain and the 木氏 Mùshì Mu clan’s cradle, now the northern component of the UNESCO 丽江古城 Lìjiāng Gǔchéng property – sits about 10 km north-west of 大研古城 Dàyán Gǔchéng and closer to the front of 玉龙雪山 Yùlóng Xuěshān than either of the other two old towns, at roughly 2,400-2,600 m. The town itself is free and quiet, a real Naxi village of 街尾 Jiēwěi, 三元 Sānyuán, 太平 Tàipíng and 丰乐 Fēnglè lanes rather than a resort, and the stays that ring it sell one thing: rooms and terraces facing the thirteen peaks. The October 2026 snapshot runs three bands: budget snow-view rooms about 170-250 yuan, mid-range design houses about 250-400, and upscale snow-front houses about 400-800, with designer 牧场 mùchǎng stays above 1,600. The stock is 大床 dàchuáng and 双床 shuāngchuáng in converted Naxi courtyards and newer builds plus family suites; what you buy is the view and the quiet – Baisha has no bar strip and no coach parties.
The geography is the whole mechanism. Of the three UNESCO components, 白沙 Báishā sits closest to the snow mountain’s front, so the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān sunrise-gold moment – the peaks turning gold at first light – is a terrace event here rather than a ropeway event. The town’s own weight is 白沙壁画 Báishā Bìhuà the Baisha murals: Ming-to-Qing frescoes across 大宝积宫 Dàbǎojī Gōng (1582), 琉璃殿 Liúlí Diàn (1417), 大定阁 Dàdìng Gé, 金刚殿 Jīngāng Diàn and 文昌宫 Wénchāng Gōng – 45 surviving paintings over about 144 m² that blend Han, Tibetan and Naxi hands, with the 大宝积宫 Dàbǎojī Gōng listed as national key cultural relics in 1996; the through-ticket runs about 30 yuan (8:30-17:30). Outside the 大定阁 Dàdìng Gé stands a 柽柳 chēngliǔ tamarisk said to be more than 500 years old – named the 中国柽柳王 Zhōngguó Chēngliǔ Wáng and listed on the national old-and-famous-trees protection roll – which is the tree the photographers come for even when the murals are closed. A short ride north, 玉湖村 Yùhú Cūn – with 洛克 Luòkè the Austrian-American botanist’s old house and the 龙女湖 Lóngnǚ Hú reflection – is the day trip, and the 玉龙雪山 Yùlóng Xuěshān foot itself is the backdrop.
Practical shape: Baisha is car-friendly – the village has parking by the 牌坊 Páifāng gate arch, and the lanes beyond are walking. Reach it by taxi from Dayan in about 20 minutes (roughly 30-50 yuan), by the 6路 Liù Lù city bus to the 白沙乡人民政府 Báishā Xiāng Rénmín Zhèngfǔ stop (about 2-3 yuan), or by the 丽江-束河-白沙 Lìjiāng-Shùhé-Báishā tourist line (about 5 yuan); the 玉湖村 Yùhú Cūn shuttle runs from the village (about 2 yuan). Give the town one night at least, and the honest pairing is one Baisha night for the sunrise and one Dayan night for the water. Bring a coat: at 2,400-2,600 m the nights are cold even in summer, and the terraces that sell the view are the coldest rooms after dark – ask about heating and 电热毯 diànrèntǎn when booking. The village’s own institutions fill the daytime hours: the 白沙咖啡博物馆 Báishā Kāfēi Bówùguǎn coffee museum, the 锦绣艺术院 Jǐnxiù Yìshùyuàn embroidery house, and the 瓦猫 Wǎmāo workshop at the end of the main lane, where the potters explain the Naxi roof-spirit clay figures that sit on the ridge of every house. Winter is the snow-view season, and the peaks to avoid or pre-book are 春节 Chūnjié, 国庆 Guóqìng and the summer weeks. Check the current band prices and the mural ticket.
The Stays
Budget (≈170–250 yuan): 星如雨Stars like rain日照金山全景民宿 Xīngrúyǔ (三元二组22号, from about 170 yuan, 4.9) is the honest floor with a snow-view room; 三沐·JINVA Sānmù (about 198 yuan, 4.9) is the value pick; 瓦猫·拾光里 Wǎmāo (太平村二组19号, about 234 yuan, 4.9) runs 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān rooms in a village courtyard; 云杉里·白沙驿 Yúnshānlǐ (太平村二组11号, from about 226 yuan, 4.9) adds a rooftop coffee bar. The shape is converted Naxi houses and small builds, and the check is which floor faces the mountain.
Upscale (≈400–800+ yuan): 行山柿外·SueVale雪山全景民宿 Xíngshān Shìwài (街尾一组56号, from about 812 yuan, 5.0) is the snow-front top – 180° rooms facing the peaks; 丽江·佐山180度雪山景民宿 Zuǒshān (古镇综合广场东南100米, from about 374 yuan, 4.9) and 玉龙栖云里设计师民宿 Yùlóng Qīyúnlǐ (三元村二组25号, from about 300 yuan, 4.9) are the design middle; 既山行·牧场野奢 Jìshānxíng (from about 1,689 yuan, 4.8) is the designer ranch stay above the band. The honest shape is that 400-800 buys the view floor and the terrace, not a gym.

The town is free and open, the murals are the one paid sight (the through-ticket runs about 30 yuan), and cars park by the 牌坊 Páifāng while the lanes stay walking.
