东方市 Dōngfāng Shì, Dongfang City, is the county-level city at Hainan’s far west, a municipality under the province rather than a county, sitting on the Beibu Gulf at the mouth of the 昌化江 Chānghuà Jiāng, the Changhua river, with roughly 2,252 square kilometres of land, 1,833 square kilometres of inshore sea and a 116-kilometre coastline, and about 460,000 residents. Its seat and its hospitality heart is 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, the place the city is also called, a town of some 303 square kilometres with 29 village committees, 16 neighbourhood committees and about 220,000 people, whose name comes from an Eastern Han story of a general’s ten garrison posts in which this was the eighth. The chain and business band here is the base for the whole western coast: national brands opened in 2024, one house with an official star behind it, a 147-room veteran refurbished for 2026, and a carpet of apartments along 东方大道 Dōngfāng Dàdào, Dongfang Avenue, from about 150 yuan. It is the one stay band in the city with no sea in it, and the only one with a high-speed platform eight minutes away.
Two 2024 openings set the tone. 东方高铁站东方文化广场亚朵酒店, the Atour Hotel Dongfang Railway Station Culture Plaza, sits at number 4 福龙中路 Fúlóng Zhōnglù, Fulong Middle Road, in Basuo, about three kilometres and eight minutes from 东方站 Dōngfāng Zhàn, Dongfang railway station, and about five minutes on foot from 东方市文化广场 Dōngfāng Shì Wénhuà Guǎngchǎng, the Dongfang Culture Plaza; it carries 82 rooms, with superior and executive kings, the brand’s 几木 jǐmù category in king, twin, garden-view and family versions, and an executive suite, and it is built around reading, with a named mattress brand, a delivery robot, a gym and a laundry room. The October 2026 snapshot reads 4.8 across 864 Ctrip reviews from 375 yuan on Tongcheng. Its neighbour of the same year is 全季酒店（东方大道店）, the Ji Hotel on Dongfang Avenue at number 44, about 2.5 kilometres and eight minutes from 东方汽车站 Dōngfāng Qìchēzhàn, the Dongfang coach station, read at 4.7 across 584 reviews. Both report a 2024 opening from the booking platforms rather than from the houses themselves, so the year travels as reported.
Below the two flags the band splits into a four-star row and a value row. 美豪丽致酒店（东方高铁站万达广场店）, the Mehood Lestie Hotel at the Dongfang Railway Station Wanda Plaza, is a four-star by the platforms, at number 8 解放东路 Jiěfàng Dōnglù, Jiefang East Road, beside 东方万达广场 Dōngfāng Wàndá Guǎngchǎng, the Dongfang Wanda Plaza, and reads 9.5 out of 10 across 804 Trip reviews from HK$134, with smart-voice rooms, a small fridge and a 65-inch projector; its phone is 0898-25585666. 傲玥丽呈酒店（东方高铁站店）, the Aoyue Rezen Hotel at the railway-station branch, is at number 9 Fulong Middle Road and is the only house in this batch with a government paper behind its rating, having been named a four-star tourist hotel in 2025 in the city’s own plan-execution report, though its scores spread widely, 3.8 on one platform against 4.6 across 1,548 reviews from 323 yuan on Ctrip. 富利瑞华酒店（东方高铁站店）, the Fuli Ruihua Hotel, reads 4.8 across 1,306 reviews from 288 yuan with free station transfer, a tea room, a gym, a delivery robot and a free minibar, and 东方奥雅国际酒店, the Dongfang Aoya International Hotel at the Culture Plaza, is a four-star on the Trip list. The veteran of the street is 维也纳酒店（东方大道店）, the Vienna Hotel on Dongfang Avenue at number 33, opened in 2015 and refurbished for 2026 with 147 rooms, about eight minutes by car from the station, six from the coach station and six from the sea, with a bus stop at the door, king rooms including a high-floor city-view category, a breakfast room, a meeting room, a music bar and a three-level car park; it reads 4.6 across 98 Ctrip reviews and 9.3 out of 10 across 121 on Trip. 凯里亚德酒店（东方环岛公路店）, the Kyriad on the island-ring road, appears in the platforms’ own notes without a figure worth printing.
The value end is where the volume is, and it is apartment country. The October 2026 snapshot reads 云宫美宿（万达广场店）at 3.9 from 222 yuan and 环岛佳·万悦城美宿（东方高铁站万达广场店）at number 69 永安东路 Yǒng’ān Dōnglù, Yong’an East Road, at 4.2 from 177, with a long tail behind them: 和佳乐酒店 at number 63 东方大道北 Dōngfāng Dàdào Běi at 4.4, 曼廷酒店 at number 1 Yong’an East Road at 4.7, 朵莱悦享酒店 at number 76 Dongfang Avenue at 4.8, 柏莱登酒店 at the middle-school branch at 4.8 and 昇达楼大酒店 at number 39 Dongfang Avenue at 4.5. A note on the map belongs here rather than in any house’s copy. 东方站 Dōngfāng Zhàn is a two-platform, one-station passenger hub with the high-speed and conventional tracks side by side, and it is the only high-speed station on Hainan’s western side that stands inside a city proper. From it the run to 三亚 Sānyà is about an hour and ten minutes for 47 to 61 yuan and to 海口东 Hǎikǒu Dōng about an hour and twenty-four minutes for 84 to 92, all snapshots to check on the day. The city has exactly two high-speed stops in all, Dongfang station in Basuo and 金月湾站 Jīnyuèwān Zhàn, Jinyuewan station, down in 板桥镇 Bǎnqiáo Zhèn, Banqiao Town; there is no Banqiao station, and 感城站 Gǎnchéng Zhàn, Gancheng station, built in 1958, is a conventional-line stop that does not serve high-speed passengers.
Two more things shape a stay here. The first is the sea, which this band does not have. 鱼鳞洲风景区, the Yulinzhou scenic area on Basuo’s western shore, is about fifteen minutes by car, and 北黎老街 Běilí Lǎojiē, Beili Old Street, about five kilometres north of the town centre, was listed on 18 December 2025 as a three-coconut rural tourism site by the city’s own culture-and-tourism bureau. 海南铁路博物馆, the Hainan Railway Museum, and the site of the wartime labourers’ deaths at Basuo, a national key cultural relic, sit on 滨海南路 Bīnhǎi Nánlù, Binhai South Road. The second is the calendar, and it is why the chains came. Dongfang has set out to be a city of health and of events, and it runs on a steady supply of them: the 村BA cūnBA rural basketball league, whose on-site crowds passed 630,000 across the 2025 season with reported online exposure over 410 million, a half-marathon, a sea-fishing contest and the 2026 三月三 Sānyuè Sān, the Double Third Festival, for which parts of the main programme were staged at the city’s culture plaza. A town that hosts like that needs beds near the platform, and this is where it put them.
What the Rooms Are Like
Book the band by what the trip needs. A national chain room at the Atour, the Ji or the Mehood Lestie is a clean night with a desk, a robot and a breakfast; the Aoyue Rezen is the one house where a government star and a review score disagree, so read the recent comments rather than the stars; the Vienna is the seasoned option with the most rooms and a car park, useful for a self-drive group; and the avenue apartments are the floor of the market for a longer, plainer stay. Room counts are published for few of these houses – 82 at the Atour and 147 at the Vienna are the two reliable figures – so ask for the floor and the aspect rather than a category name, and confirm whether breakfast is inside the rate, because the top houses price it separately.
Practicalities
Price. On 2 October 2026 the snapshot read: the Atour from 375 yuan on Tongcheng (4.8 across 864), the Ji at 4.7 across 584, the Mehood Lestie from HK$134 (9.5 out of 10 across 804), the Aoyue Rezen from 323 on Ctrip (4.6 across 1,548) against 3.8 elsewhere, the Fuli Ruihua from 288 (4.8 across 1,306), the Vienna from 4.6 across 98, the 云宫美宿 apartment from 222 and the 环岛佳·万悦城 apartment from 177, with an economy tail down to about 150 yuan. The band is roughly 150 to 375 yuan a night, with the mid-high chains at the top. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.
Address. The band runs the county town’s streets: the Atour at number 4 福龙中路 Fúlóng Zhōnglù, the Aoyue Rezen at number 9 on the same street, the Ji at number 44 东方大道 Dōngfāng Dàdào, the Mehood Lestie at number 8 解放东路 Jiěfàng Dōnglù, the Fuli Ruihua and the chains around the station and the Wanda Plaza, and the Vienna at number 33 Dongfang Avenue (bus stop at the door). Pin by the street and the house name, and treat the station side as the anchor for anything on the east of the town.
Rooms. Book the aspect and the equipment rather than a brand: a high-floor city-view room at the Vienna or the Atour, a smart room with a projector at the Mehood Lestie, an ordinary chain room at the Ji, and a self-catering flat on the avenue for a long stay. Ask for the floor specifically, since a county-seat room can face a courtyard or a car park for the same money, and confirm whether breakfast is inside the rate, because the top houses price it apart.
Getting there. 东方站 Dōngfāng Zhàn, Dongfang station, is the city’s rail hub and the reason this band exists, a two-platform, one-station stop in 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, where the west-ring high-speed and conventional lines meet – the only high-speed station on Hainan’s west side that sits inside a city proper. The city’s second high-speed stop is 金月湾站 Jīnyuèwān Zhàn, Jinyuewan station, in 板桥镇 Bǎnqiáo Zhèn, Banqiao Town, on the southern coast; there is no Banqiao station, and 感城站 Gǎnchéng Zhàn, Gancheng station, built in 1958, is a conventional-line halt. From Dongfang station the run to 三亚 Sānyà is about an hour and ten minutes for 47 to 61 yuan and to 海口东 Hǎikǒu Dōng about an hour and twenty-four minutes for 84 to 92, both snapshots, and the last kilometre from the platform to the avenue is eight minutes by car. By road the city sits on the G98 west ring and the G225; by air the nearest trunk airport is 三亚凤凰国际机场, Phoenix airport, hours away by rail and road, so time it rather than trust one number. Where to stay: a high-floor room at the Vienna or a reading-themed one at the Atour if the county town and the platform matter, a smart room at the Mehood Lestie beside the Wanda Plaza if the evening does, and a self-catering flat on 东方大道 Dōngfāng Dàdào if 150 to 230 yuan is the plan – all in 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, at the seat of 东方市 Dōngfāng Shì, Dongfang City.
flowcloud would say that a city named East and sitting at the far west has spent its whole life explaining the joke, and that the correct way to sleep here is in a high room near the platform with no view of the sea at all, because the sea is fifteen minutes away and the trains are the thing you actually came for.
