霸王岭 Bàwáng Lǐng is the mountain block in the south-east of 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn, a piece of the 海南热带雨林国家公园 Hǎinán Rèdài Yǔlín Guójiā Gōngyuán, the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, and the only home on earth of the 海南长臂猿 Hǎinán Chángbìyuán, the Hainan gibbon. The scenic area sits in 七叉镇 Qīchā Zhèn, 26 kilometres from the county town by the encyclopaedia’s account and 28 by the county’s own bus timetable, and the beds below it are forestry beds: a conference resort opened in September 2007 inside the former 雅加林场 Yǎjiā Línchǎng, and 24 grey-brick courtyard cottages converted from the forestry workers’ housing of the 1960s and 1970s, with a thin economy layer of bureau guesthouses in 霸王岭小镇 Bàwáng Lǐng Xiǎozhèn. The reserve’s own tallies give the gibbon six groups and 37 animals in 2022-23 reports and seven groups and 42 in accounts circulating in 2025.

The bigger of the two is 雅加度假会议中心 Yǎjiā Dùjià Huìyì Zhōngxīn, the Yajia conference centre, on 40 mu of the old forestry farm with water below and the three boardwalks – 情道 Qíng Dào, 霸道 Bà Dào and 天路 Tiān Lù – starting nearby. One account, an agent’s fact sheet, lists two luxury villas, twenty luxury suites and 85 standard rooms, a meeting hall for more than 200 and dining for 150 indoors and 80 more on a lakeside terrace; the encyclopaedia’s room-type table adds up to about 92, and both counts are printed here rather than one being chosen. It opened in September 2007 and was partly renovated in June 2009, and sits 7.3 kilometres from the 霸王岭林业局 Bàwáng Lǐng Lín’yè Jú headquarters, 33.8 from the 昌江 bus station, 209 from 海口站 Hǎikǒu Zhàn and 229.7 from 美兰机场 Měilán Jīchǎng on the same sheet. The 雅加大瀑布 Yǎjiā Dà Pùbù drops 150 metres over a rock face 30 metres wide within reach of the boardwalks, and guests recorded in April 2021 hearing the gibbons calling across the valley at dawn.
Booking it is a 2007 experience in 2026. The rack rates that circulate – ordinary rooms at 368 yuan, standard 468, small suites 668, mid 868, large 1,888 and a whole villa at 6,888 – are encyclopaedia data of opening vintage; the live figure checked on 30 September 2026 was from 364 yuan on 欣欣 Xīnxīn, where 86 of 86 reviews are positive, and an agent listed a luxury suite at 1,288 with breakfast marked not bookable online, telephone 0898-66675218. The honest summary is that online stock is thin and some room types need a phone call to confirm. The house rules are worth knowing: report your plate number and guest names to the front desk in advance and the gate lets guests drive in without buying park tickets – a rule a Ctrip traveller confirmed in April 2021, along with three more: the rainforest keeps only this one stand of wooden houses, the staff are few but kind, and there is no second restaurant, so bring snacks up the mountain.

The cottages are the better-looking half of the story. 雨林老屋度假酒店 Yǔlín Lǎowū Dùjià Jiǔdiàn took the forestry bureau’s 1960s-and-70s blue-stone worker housing and old workshops and turned them into 24 courtyard houses of grey brick and grey tile, each suite with its own courtyard and a soaking pool, its bathrooms built in limestone and river pebbles, redesigned by 九源国际 Jiǔyuán Guójì as the opening act of the 霸王岭旅游风情小镇 project. 欣欣 listed it from 260 yuan on 30 September 2026 on just four reviews – a sample too small to lean on – and the weekend-and-holiday rule is to book ahead. The soaking pools are described by the hotel in hot-spring terms, and that description is the only source; no authoritative water test was found, so the word here is pool, not verified spring. Behind them the bureau’s own 招待所 zhāodàisuǒ guesthouses and the 霸王岭生态旅馆 Bàwáng Lǐng Shēngtài Lǚguǎn by the office building carry no stable online rates at all – telephone or turn up. The background fact that orders the whole area: 王下乡 Wángxià Xiāng and 白石潭 Báishí Tán have no hotels yet, so everyone sleeps in 霸王岭小镇 or in the county town.
What the Rooms Are Like
A room below 霸王岭 is a converted building, and the two conversions feel different. The conference centre is plain hotel rooms in timber-and-concrete blocks for researchers and study groups, with the meeting hall and the boardwalks outside; the cottages are one-bedroom, one-hall suites with stone floors, a courtyard and a steaming pool, built for families and photographers who want the forest to sit still. Meals are a town affair – 山野农家猪肉, free-range chicken, 昌化江 Chānghuà Jiāng fish and wild vegetables in the small town’s restaurants. October to April is the cool and clear half of the year for walking the boardwalks; in the wet months the mist is the attraction and the trails are slick.
Practicalities
Price. On 30 September 2026 the live quotes were 364 yuan up for the conference centre on 欣欣 Xīnxīn with limited online stock, 260 up for 雨林老屋度假酒店 on four reviews, and nothing published for the bureau guesthouses, whose rates exist only by telephone. The rack-rate list of 368 to 6,888 yuan is opening-era data kept here as history, not as a price. Everything floats.
Address. The beds stand below 霸王岭 Bàwáng Lǐng in 七叉镇 Qīchā Zhèn, 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn: the conference centre in the former 雅加林场 Yǎjiā Línchǎng 7.3 kilometres from the forestry bureau headquarters, the cottages in the tourism-town zone at the foot of the mountain, and the guesthouses beside the bureau office in 霸王岭小镇 Bàwáng Lǐng Xiǎozhèn. The town is 26 to 28 kilometres from 石碌镇 Shílù Zhèn, with 白石潭 Báishí Tán 11 kilometres off and the road to 王下乡 Wángxià Xiāng about 26 more on the older guide figures.
Rooms. Ask whether your dates have online stock at all, because the conference centre sells its platforms thin and reverts to the phone. Ask whether the cottage pool is filled on your night, and remember the hot-spring wording is the hotel’s own. Ask about dinner on arrival and bring snacks regardless, since there is no second restaurant on the mountain. And ask about the drive-in rule – plate number and names reported ahead – if you want the gate without a ticket.
Getting there. From the county town the road runs about half an hour, 26 to 28 kilometres, and the county’s own timetable lists a 石碌—霸王岭 shuttle of 28 kilometres with several runs a day in the 7-yuan fare band. The island’s high-speed stop for the county is 棋子湾站 Qízi Wān Zhàn in 乌烈镇 Wūliè Zhèn; from there the mountain is a hired car, not a bus. Drivers should fill the tank in 石碌 – the old guides say the small town had no pump – and telephone the conference centre with plate and names before the gate.

Where to stay: a standard room at 雅加度假会议中心 Yǎjiā Dùjià Huìyì Zhōngxīn if the boardwalks and the waterfall are the plan, a courtyard suite at 雨林老屋度假酒店 Yǔlín Lǎowū Dùjià Jiǔdiàn if the design and the pool are, and a bureau guesthouse bed in 霸王岭小镇 Bàwáng Lǐng Xiǎozhèn if the budget is the point, all of them below 霸王岭 Bàwáng Lǐng in 七叉镇 Qīchā Zhèn, 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn – and, if you wake before the mist lifts, listen; guests have heard the gibbons calling across the valley.
flowcloud would say that a forest which spends its budget on forty-odd gibbons has borrowed its hotel trade from the men who used to log it, and that the correct way to sleep here is in a converted worker’s cottage with the windows open, because the dawn chorus on this mountain is a species, not a sparrow.
