Birds Nest Resort
The pool sits on the edge of a cliff, and beyond the edge there is nothing but air and then, far below, the curve of 亚龙湾 with its white sand and its line of resort towers that look, from up here, like something you could sweep off the table.
This is 峭壁天池 (Qiàobì Tiānchí, the Cliff Sky Pool) at 三亚亚龙湾人间天堂·鸟巢度假村 — Yalong Bay Earthly Paradise Birds Nest Resort — and it is the single reason most people book the place. It appeared in 冯小刚’s 2010 film 非诚勿扰2 (If You Are the One II), which is why half of China calls it “the 非诚勿扰2 pool.”
Wooden Villas on a Cliff
The resort is not a building. It is a scatter of wooden villas on the mountainside of 亚龙湾热带天堂森林公园 (Yalong Bay Tropical Paradise Forest Park), the rainforest park that backs the bay. It spreads across two ridges east and west, which the marketing describes as arms around the bay, and there are around 190 rooms and suites in total, in five separate clusters:
- 集结地 (Assembly Point) — 20 units; the newest, pitched as light-luxury, and the most affordable way in
- 鸟巢西区 (West) — 21 villas, each four-sided in glass; this is where the 非诚勿扰2 honeymoon villa is
- 鸟巢东区 (East) — 90 units; the 孔雀, 大雁, 喜鹊, 白鹭 and 丹顶鹤 (peacock, wild goose, magpie, egret, red-crowned crane) room grades
- 云顶区 (Cloud Top) — 49 units; highest, full view over the bay, 24-hour butler
- 凤凰台 (Phoenix Terrace) — 8 units; concrete-built linked villas, the most private
The architecture is imported Malaysian rosewood and natural materials, deliberately rough, and the grades are named after birds because the whole thing is meant to feel like nesting in the canopy rather than checking into a hotel.
What It Costs and What That Includes
Rates run from roughly ¥1,200 to ¥2,600 for the ordinary villas, with the premium pool villas at ¥2,500 and up and the top full-sea-view suites listed as high as ¥7,999. The headline figure you will see quoted — often around ¥1,499 — is the entry rate for a mid-grade villa on an ordinary midweek night, so treat it as the floor, not the price. In Spring Festival and National Day weeks, half again to double is normal. Book thirty days ahead if you can.
What is bundled matters here. Most packages include the park ticket and the shuttle buses, which is worth around ¥140 a person in peak season; the current offers also fold in the 过江龙索桥 (Guòjiānglóng rope bridge, 168 metres long, 40 metres up, and a film location in its own right), the 非诚勿扰2 villa viewing, the 400-metre glass skywalk, the 峭壁天池 cliff pool, a rainforest raft ride, the animal garden and a photo session. Check what is in the package you are buying; the ones with the rope bridge and the glass walkway are usually better value than a bare room rate.
Living Up There
The honest version of a stay: it is beautiful, it is inconvenient, and the two facts are the same fact.
The units are spread over a lot of hillside. Getting from your villa to breakfast means a forest walkway or a shuttle, and in the wet season means both plus an umbrella. There are mosquitoes, because you are sleeping in a rainforest in the tropics, and the humidity is what you paid for. The stairs are steep enough that a suitcase is a decision.
What you get in exchange is a morning where you open the door onto cloud sitting in the trees below you, and a bay that has not yet woken up. The 云顶 area has the best of it — the highest rooms, the full panorama, and a butler who will bring things to a place nobody wants to leave.
Food on site is mostly 泰式 and Chinese, competent rather than the point, and the Sky Bar does the sunset. There is a spa, a gym, a kids’ play area and a small animal garden. The infinity pool is the cliff one, and it is not heated against the mountain wind — bring a layer for the evening.
Who It’s For
This is the honeymoon and anniversary answer for Sanya, the answer to “we want somewhere that isn’t a beach tower”, and a genuine two-day nature stay if you actually walk the park rather than treating it as decoration outside the window.
It is not the answer if you want to swim in the sea. You are on a mountain above the bay, not on it; the beach is a drive, and the resort’s own water is the cliff pool. It is also a stretch for anyone with mobility trouble, and it is a poor fit for a family that wants a shallow kids’ pool on the doorstep.
If you are weighing it against the alternatives in 亚龙湾: the bayside five-stars put you on the sand with a beach and a much easier life for about the same money at the bottom of their range. Book the Birds Nest when the photograph and the mountain matter more than the swimming.
flowcloud would say that a bed above the clouds is not a better bed, but it is a better morning, and that is a fair thing to pay for once.
