Thirty-One Villas on a Cliff Inside a Spring Park

Chongqing is a municipality of southwest China, and 巴碚区 Běibèi Qū, Beibei District, holds the northern approach to the built-up city. Its geography changed in both directions on 7 November 2025, when the district lost five subdistricts and two towns to the new 两江新区 Liǎngjiāng Xīnqū, Liangjiang New Area, and gained the five northern towns of the abolished 渝北区 Yúběi Qū, Yubei District; the result is six subdistricts and eleven towns. One hotel in this district is not a hotel in the ordinary sense. 重庆柏联酒店 Chóngqìng Bǎilián Jiǔdiàn, Bolian Resorts and Spa, stands inside 北温泉公园 Běiwēnquán Gōngyuán, Beibei Hot Spring Park, with thirty-one villa rooms stepping down a steep bank above the 嘉陵江 Jiālíng Jiāng, Jialing River. The address is the attraction, and the price is a genuine conflict: one platform shows a lowest rate of 6,550 yuan, another quotes rooms from 800 to 3,500 yuan, and this article prints the band and refuses the starting price.

What makes the address worth a booking is the company it keeps. 温泉寺 Wēnquán Sì, the Hot Spring Temple, was founded in 423 AD and stands beside the villas, which makes it one of the earliest hot springs in the world still in use, nearly 1,600 years on. In 1927 卢作孚 Lú Zuófú built the 嘉陵江温泉公园 Jiālíngjiāng Wēnquán Gōngyuán on this ground, the first public hot-spring park in China, and it is his park you are buying a night inside rather than a view of a river. The spring itself is measured differently by different decades: current reporting gives more than twenty outlets, 6,000 to 8,636 tonnes a day and a year-round temperature around 38 degrees, while older material gives ten outlets, 3,628 tonnes at the Triangle Pool and 37 degrees. Both are printed because the spring has not changed, only the survey. The park’s own four excellences are named as cloud-root spout, flow into the temple pool, the highest calcium content among Chongqing springs with its radon, and outlet count against volume.

The numbers a booker actually holds are these. Trip.com scores the property 9.4 out of 10 across 273 reviews, which is a sample large enough to lean on and small enough to read. The straight-line figures the same page gives are 41.3 kilometres to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, 8.3 kilometres to 北碚站 Běibèi Zhàn, Beibei station, and 30.2 kilometres to 合川站 Héchuān Zhàn, Hechuan station. The room count is thirty-one, which is the constraint that shapes every other decision here: thirty-one rooms means the property sells out on a holiday weekend, means there is no bargain at the desk, and means the villa you are shown is not necessarily the villa you booked. The villas are built along the bank rather than on a plateau, so the lower rooms sit closest to the water and the upper ones furthest into the slope, and that gradient is the difference between a room with a view of the river and a room with a view of trees.

A private outdoor bath on a villa terrace in the early evening, still water reflecting a dark mountain slope, steam lifting off the surface, a folded towel on the stone edge.

The price conflict is eight times wide, and it is worth understanding rather than resolving. A Tongcheng scrape of 5 October 2026 returned a lowest rate of 6,550 yuan, while a 2026 parent-child resort product page for the same hotel quotes a room price band of 800 to 3,500 yuan. The likely explanation is the ordinary one – a lowest rate is one room type on one date, and a family product page prices a mid-tier room across a season – but the research is not able to prove which account governs which night, so this article prints no floor at all. What can be printed is the hot-spring admission, which is separate from the room on every platform checked: 348 yuan for an adult, 174 for a child and 1,044 for a family of two adults and two children. A reader who budgets only for the room has not budgeted for the water.

One further warning, and it is a level problem rather than a contradiction. Beibei Hot Spring Park itself shows as zero or free on booking pages, and in practice the park charges at the item level inside it, with the 乳花洞 Rǔhuādòng, the Milky Flower Cave, and the swimming pool treated separately. No official tariff table for those individual points could be found, so ask at the gate rather than assuming either that everything is free or that a single figure covers the park. The park’s management was renamed in October 1985 as the 重庆市北泉风景区管理处 Chóngqìng Shì Běiquán Fēngjǐngquán Guǎnlǐ Chù, Beiquan Scenic Area Office, at 团山堡一号 Tuánshānbǎo 1, which is where a question about item-level charges is best aimed.

Practicalities

Price. A band, not a floor, and the reasoning is printed above because the two available figures differ by roughly eight times. A 2026 parent-child product page quotes rooms at 800 to 3,500 yuan; a Tongcheng scrape of 5 October 2026 shows a lowest rate of 6,550 yuan, which is a single room type on a single date rather than a going rate. Top-tier suites run into the thousands on that second reading. Hot-spring admission is separate and is priced cleanly: 348 yuan an adult, 174 a child, 1,044 for two adults and two children. The telephone is 023-68226666, and it is the number to use for the two questions no page answers – which villa orientation a given rate buys, and what the park charges at the gate.

Address. 重庆市北碚区北温泉街道 G212(北泉路)北温泉公园内 – inside Beibei Hot Spring Park, Beiquan Road, Beibeiquan Subdistrict, Beibei District. Note the two levels that English readers mix up: 北温泉街道 Běiwēnquán Jiēdào, Beibeiquan Subdistrict, is one of the district’s six subdistricts, and 北温泉公园 is the scenic area inside it. 缙云山 Jǐnyún Shān, Jinyun Mountain, is immediately south and the Jialing River is immediately north, and the temple is inside the park rather than next door to it.

Rooms. Thirty-one villa rooms in total, distributed along the steep Jialing bank, and the gradient is the product. The lowest rooms sit closest to the water; the highest sit back into the slope with forest rather than river in the outlook. Ask for orientation in writing before you pay, and ask whether the bathing water is the park’s or a private supply in the room, because the two are not the same purchase. If a rate is quoted as a “lowest rate”, find out which room type it belongs to before comparing it with any other figure – that is the whole explanation of the 6,550 yuan on one page and 800 yuan on another.

Getting there. The district is on the rail map and the resort is not at the station. The nearest metro node is Line 6’s 状元碑站 Zhuàngyuánběi Zhàn, Zhuangyuanbei, and the district’s station is 北碚站 Běibèi Zhàn, Beibei, at 8.3 kilometres by the page’s own figure. Jiangbei International Airport is 41.3 kilometres away, which makes this a drive-or-coach destination rather than an airport-night destination, and the road up from the Jialing valley is the reason a late arrival is a worse idea than an early one. Allow for the climb: a property built on a bank is not level with the road at its gate.

A villa room at night with the sliding door open onto a dark terrace, a lit doorway in the far wall, low furniture and one lamp, the river invisible beyond the railing.

A day here runs on water and on light, in that order. Morning belongs to the park before the buses, when the spring outlets are steaming and the temple court is empty and the river below is still flat. Late morning is the climb up through the park to the cliff-face inscription and the stonework above the Jialing, which is the walk the location exists for. Midday is the village road above the park, lunch, and the wait for the afternoon session. Afternoon is the second good window at the water and the one people skip while waiting for evening. Evening is when the villa terraces light up in rows down the bank and the steam stands over the river, and it is the only hour of the day when the slope reads as one thing rather than as a wall you are climbing. Then the room, where the tub and the outlook are the same purchase.

flowcloud would say that Bolian is the only address in Beibei where the accommodation is inside the reason to come, and that the correct way to book it is to refuse every starting price on the page – because 6,550 and 800 are the same hotel eight times apart – to buy the room as a band and the water as a separate ticket, and to ask in writing which villa orientation the rate actually buys before paying for a river the room may not face.

Where to stay: Bolian itself if the temple, the park and the spring are why you came, booked well ahead for a holiday weekend because thirty-one rooms sell; a mid-tier villa rather than the cheapest band if the gradient is the point, since the difference between rooms is river and trees; and something in the 145-to-350 range in the villages below if the water is not the point. And take the hot-spring ticket as a separate line in the budget, because 348 yuan an adult does not appear in the room rate and the park’s own gate may charge at the item level as well.
