Homestays and Farm Estates in the Ding’an Countryside
定安爱情树民宿 Dìng’ān Àiqíngshù Mínsù stands in 皇坡村 Huángpō Cūn, a village in 岭口镇 Lǐngkǒu Zhèn at the foot of 母瑞山 Mǔruì Shān, and it holds the country’s second-grade tourism guesthouse certification, 全国乙级旅游民宿, awarded in January 2026, when only two properties in Hainan reached that grade. The village is a revolutionary old-area village and part of the 百里百村 Bǎi Lǐ Bǎi Cūn rural belt, and it is a fourth-batch traditional Chinese village. Two large banyans grow in it, 爱情树 Àiqíng Shù and 元帝树 Yuándì Shù, and the story that a Yuan emperor exiled to Hainan planted them with his sweetheart is told as a legend rather than as history.
The house is built around that story on purpose, and it is a small country hotel rather than a spare room. Its room list runs to themed suites named 并蒂莲, 元帝树 and 连理枝, some with a 270-degree window wall and a soaking tub, and its public side has a coffee room, craft beer, a fish therapy pool, an outdoor dining terrace, a KTV, a card room, a tea room, a bar, a barbecue and a camp where you can pitch your own tent, use a power supply, cook on an open fire and sleep over. There is also a meeting room, a lift and free parking. Cats and dogs are welcome for an extra 100 yuan and the breakfast is Chinese.
Ten kilometres east the county is building the next one, and it is not open yet. 龙梅学而山房民宿 Lóngméi Xué’ér Shānfáng Mínsù, in 龙梅村 Lóngméi Cūn in 雷鸣镇 Léimíng Zhèn, is a 2025 project paid for from the county’s rural revitalisation fund with 4,573,103 yuan, and its construction contract, signed on 11 September 2025 for 3,693,981.38 yuan with 海南昇腾建设工程有限公司, runs to 28 February 2026. The building is 600 square metres, with the same again for basic interior work and again for the fit-out. That sum is a construction price and not a room rate, and the property should not be confused with a silver-graded guesthouse of a similar name in 琼中 Qióngzhōng, which is a different county entirely.
The third kind of country bed is the farm estate, and there is really only one. 包蜜园农庄 Bāomì Yuán Nóngzhuāng in 黄竹镇 Huángzhú Zhèn, five kilometres from the 东线高速 Dōngxiàn Gāosù exit, claims to be a four-coconut rural tourism point, which is its own description and not a published award. What it has is nine timber villas of 880 square metres holding 22 rooms, 48 terrace houses with a further 96, and, in a second account from the same source, 160 rooms altogether. Around them are a riding yard, a fishing pond at 15 yuan a kilogram, a water restaurant that can seat a thousand, a coffee house and a thousand mu of lychee.
What the Rooms Are Like
A country room in 定安 is one of three things. It can be a themed suite in a village house grown into a small resort, which is what 爱情树 is; a farm villa bookended by riding and fruit picking, which is 包蜜园; or a room in a household beside the 久温塘 Jiǔwēntáng spring, where the county’s 千家民宿 programme has encouraged villagers to let spare bedrooms. All three want a car, all three are in the wet half of the island from May to October, and all three are 30 to 45 minutes from the county town. One correction belongs here: 久温塘 is a cold spring, 冷泉 lěng quán, at 23 to 25 degrees, and the county has no hot spring at all.
Practicalities
Price. 爱情树民宿 was listed from 575 yuan a night on 29 September 2026 and at about 2,370 Taiwan dollars on another site, with a 100-yuan supplement for a pet; it scores 9.7 out of 10 across 25 reviews on one platform and 4.6 on another. 包蜜园’s published rates come from a 2018 promotion and are historical: 480 yuan for a two-bedroom timber villa with breakfast and a riding voucher, 380 for a terrace house, and 20 yuan to enter the orchard. Guesthouses beside 久温塘 run 250 to 350, and the guides keep recommending the county town at 100 to 150 instead.
Address. The three are scattered across the centre and south of 定安县 Dìng’ān Xiàn: 爱情树民宿 in 皇坡村 Huángpō Cūn, 岭口镇 Lǐngkǒu Zhèn, 45.4 kilometres from 琼海博鳌国际机场 Qiónghǎi Bó’áo Guójì Jīchǎng; 龙梅学而山房民宿 in 龙梅村 Lóngméi Cūn, 雷鸣镇 Léimíng Zhèn, the village where the Ming minister 王弘诲 Wáng Hónghuì was born; and 包蜜园农庄 in 黄竹镇 Huángzhú Zhèn, five kilometres from the motorway. The spring that anchors the fourth group is at 久温塘村 Jiǔwēntáng Cūn in 龙门镇 Lóngmén Zhèn.
Rooms. Ask whether the farm rate includes the experiences, because 包蜜园 bundles a riding voucher and free orchard entry into some rates. Ask whether the bed beside the spring is a registered room or a relative’s spare one, since the county’s programme formalised an informal trade. Ask about pets before booking 爱情树, which takes them for a fee, and about the rule elsewhere, which is usually no. And ask what happens in a thunderstorm, because the spring is an open stream and the standing advice is half an hour in the water and no more.
Getting there. None of this is reachable by train: 定安县 Dìng’ān Xiàn has no railway passenger station, so the arrival is 海口东站 Hǎikǒu Dōng Zhàn or 海口美兰国际机场 Hǎikǒu Měilán Guójì Jīchǎng and then a car for about 40 minutes into the county. From there the two recommended driving routes to 久温塘 both start at the 黄竹 exit of the eastern motorway, one turning for 龙门镇 and the other running through 雷鸣镇 before a sign for 久温塘村委会 and another four kilometres; parking costs 10 yuan, the changing room 5, the spring is free, and vendors outside the gate will try to sell you a private pool you do not need.
Where to stay: a themed suite at 定安爱情树民宿 Dìng’ān Àiqíngshù Mínsù in 皇坡村 Huángpō Cūn, 岭口镇 Lǐngkǒu Zhèn, if you want the national grade, the lift and the fish therapy pool; a timber villa at 包蜜园农庄 in 黄竹镇 Huángzhú Zhèn if you want horses, a water restaurant and lychees in season; and a household room in 久温塘村 Jiǔwēntáng Cūn if the cold spring is the whole point of the trip, every one of them in 定安县 Dìng’ān Xiàn, and not one of them a beach.
flowcloud would say that a county which could not build a hotel on top of its own heritage has put its beds in the villages instead, and that the correct way to sleep here is to take the graded homestay once and the country room the next time, because the banyans, the spring and the lychee orchard charge nothing at all.
