The stay in 香格里拉 Xiānggélǐlā Shangri-La city proper is the modern 度假酒店 dùjià jiǔdiàn resort hotel – full-service houses with 供氧 gōngyǎng oxygen systems, 地暖 dìnuǎn underfloor heating and 设施 shèshī facilities (pool, gym, restaurant) that the old-town 客栈 kèzhàn guesthouses cannot offer, sitting at about 3,300 m on the 建塘 Jiàntáng plateau between the 独克宗古城 Dúkèzōng Gǔchéng old town and the 康珠大道 Kāngzhū Dàdào Kangzhu Avenue ring. These are the houses for anyone who treats altitude seriously: the 弥散供氧 mísàn gōngyǎng dispersed-oxygen system in the room means you sleep with the air thickened, and the 恒温泳池 héngwēn yǒngchí constant-temperature pool is the one luxury the plateau allows. The geography is the trade. The city proper splits into two: the 古城 gǔchéng old-town edge (东门 Dōngmén east gate, 康珠大道 Kāngzhū Dàdào) where the resorts sit ten minutes by taxi from the lanes, and the 城北 chéngběi north side toward 松赞林寺 Sōngzànlín Sì where the quiet manor resorts hide. 迪庆香格里拉大酒店 Dìqìng Xiānggélǐlā Diqing Shangri-La Hotel is the full-service anchor – 全房型供氧 quán fángxíng gōngyǎng oxygen in every room, a 25 m 恒温泳池 héngwēn yǒngchí with an oxygen-humidifying system, 亲子房 qīnzǐ fáng family rooms, and a ten-minute walk to the old town. 希尔顿花园 Xī’ěrdùn Huāyuán Hilton Garden Inn sits on 康珠大道 Kāngzhū Dàdào with 石卡雪山 Shíkǎ Xuěshān Shika Snow Mountain in the window and a mini 供氧 gōngyǎng nose-canister in the room. Further out, 仁安悦榕庄 Rén’ān Yuèróngzhuāng Banyan Tree Ringha is a 藏式 zàngshì Tibetan-village resort in a side valley about 45 minutes from town, and 迪庆月光城英迪格酒店 Yīndígé Indigo crowns the hill above 独克宗 Dúkèzōng with panoramic windows. Who it suits: families, business travellers, and first-timers who want the plateau tamed; who it does not suit: anyone who came for the 转经筒 zhuànjīngtǒng at the bedroom window – that is article one’s lane, not this tower.
Practical shape: the city is the logical first and last night – arrive, 供氧 gōngyǎng for two hours, then the pool, then a calm sleep before the 普达措 Pǔdáchuò or 松赞林寺 Sōngzànlín Sì day. Bring less here than in the old town, because the towers have elevators and the avenues have parking; the 机场 jīchǎng airport is about 5 km (15-20 minutes by taxi) and 香格里拉站 Xiānggélǐlā Zhàn the station about 5 km. The 高反 gāofǎn altitude-sickness rule is the same everywhere at 3,300 m: hydrate, walk slow, and let the room’s 供氧 gōngyǎng do the work – the resorts exist precisely so you do not have to think about it. The 门票 ménpiào and transfer notes for the sights are unchanged from the other four stays. Check band prices, the pool-access rule and the airport fare.
The Stays
Budget (≈170–310 yuan): 季枫酒店 Jìfēng (独克宗古城店, ~172-309 yuan, 3星连锁, 健身室+儿童乐园+供氧设施) and 桔子酒店 Júzǐ (古城店, ~190 yuan, 3星, 新风系统+加湿器) hold the cheap band – chain comfort with 大床 dàchuáng/双床 shuāngchuáng; 花筑奢·噶丹庄园 (~249 yuan, 4星, 供氧+地暖) is the value pick. The check is whether the room has 供氧 gōngyǎng.
Upscale (≈800–1,600 yuan): 迪庆香格里拉大酒店 Dìqìng Xiānggélǐlā (东门, ~800 yuan平季/1,500旺, 全房型供氧+25m恒温泳池+亲子房, 步行古城10分钟) is the full-service top; 迪庆月光城英迪格酒店 Yīndígé Indigo (~1,563+ yuan, 5星, 古城制高点, 弥散供氧+全屋地暖, 全景落地窗) and 仁安悦榕庄 Rén’ān Yuèróngzhuāng Banyan Tree Ringha (藏式村落度假, about 45 minutes from town) are the resort end. The honest shape is that 800-1,600 buys 供氧 gōngyǎng and 设施 shèshī, not a lane.
Getting there: about 5 km from 迪庆香格里拉机场 Dìqìng Xiānggélǐlā Jīchǎng (15-20 minutes by taxi) and about 5 km from 香格里拉站 Xiānggélǐlā Zhàn; the resorts sit on 康珠大道 Kāngzhū Dàdào and the 东门 Dōngmén edge, ten minutes by taxi from 独克宗 Dúkèzōng. Give a driver the hotel name plus 香格里拉 Xiānggélǐlā, since the avenues are signed but the compounds are not.
