Exianling Mountain Stays, Rooms Under the Karst

东方市 Dōngfāng Shì, Dongfang City, is known for its coast, and this article is about the part of it that has none. 俄贤岭 Éxiánlǐng, Exianling, also called 俄娘九峰山 Éniáng Jiǔfēng Shān, the Nine-Peak Mountain, stands in 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn, Donghe Town, in the city’s east, and it is a limestone landscape rather than a forest: karst peak-forest and cave country, with the 大广坝水库 Dàguǎngbà Shuǐkù, the Daguangba reservoir, spread out at its foot in the bend the sources call 海南小桂林 Hǎinán Xiǎo Guìlín, Hainan’s Little Guilin. The scenic area on the same ground, 娥仙岭生态文化旅游区 Éxiānlǐng Shēngtài Wénhuà Lǚyóu Qū, the Exianling eco-cultural tourism area, holds the 娥娘洞 Éniáng Dòng cave with its shuttle, and this is the only band in the city built on mountains rather than water. The beds are few and they are a single idea – a rosewood-themed hillside house and the township rooms around it – and they exist for the traveller who wants the other Dongfang.

The landscape needs describing before the beds do, because it is the whole reason to come. Exianling is one of the four main mountain ranges the province’s own profile lists inside Dongfang, and its rock is limestone, which is why the peaks rise as towers over the water rather than as a wooded ridge. The 娥仙岭生态文化旅游区 gives the visit two parts that are priced separately: the ground is open from about eight in the morning to six in the evening by the platform snapshot, and the cave and the shuttle carry their own ticket, from 76 yuan for an adult, 147 for a pair and 210 for a family of two adults and a child. The cave the sources call either 娥娘洞 Éniáng Dòng or 俄贤洞 Éxián Dòng is a natural chamber large enough for a crowd of thousands. Below it, at the eastern tail of the Daguangba reservoir, lies the stretch the trade has named Little Guilin, and the reservoir’s own viewing platform is free. The city’s profile lists four main ranges and 238 rivers inside its boundary, but this is the one place where the rock and the water are the whole show. This is a karst-and-water landscape, and the distinction is the one thing this article will not let slide: it is not the rainforest of 尖峰岭 Jiānfēnglǐng, Jianfengling, across the county line in Ledong, and no one should come here expecting jungle.

The band’s one signature house is 海南黄花梨山庄·花梨居民宿, the Hainan Huanghuali Mountain Villa and its Hualiju Homestay, at 金炳村 Jīnbǐng Cūn, Jinbing village, in 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn, Donghe Town, at the address one platform gives as number 1 of the Huili rosewood base at the head of the village. It is read as a three-star or comfort-class house and scores 4.5 on Meituan, and it is named for the wood this city claims: 黄花梨 huánghuālí, Hainan rosewood or huanghuali, the timber behind the local saying that the world looks to China for rosewood, China to Hainan and Hainan to Dongfang, and behind the 花梨谷文化旅游区 Huālígǔ Wénhuà Lǚyóu Qū, the Hualigu rosewood valley cultural tourism area, and the city’s natural-treasure garden. The house sits within reach of the Little Guilin and Exianling ground, and it carries the things a hillside stay needs: fishing, a children’s play area, a meeting room, a tea room, a barbecue, hiking, a picnic ground and charging bays for electric cars. Its name is written several ways in the platforms, once as the Little Guilin branch and once as the Exianling scenic-area branch, which this article reads as one property under more than one listing rather than as two houses. What it does not publish, anywhere this batch could find, is a room count or a firm rate, so the honest line is the house’s own: ask the platform for the day’s figure, and treat the general township band of 150 to 350 yuan a night as a reference band rather than this house’s price.

Below the hillside house the band is the township itself. 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn, Donghe Town, keeps the ordinary rooms of a rural municipality, plain and cheap, and it is worth knowing that the town is the place the city set for its 2026 三月三 Sānyuè Sān, the Double Third Festival, and specifically its 原生态民俗狂欢夜 yuánshēngtài mínsú kuánghuān yè, the night of unpolished folk celebration, which is a reminder that this is living country rather than a theme park. Two of the city’s festival art displays, its natural-treasure exhibition, are held at the rosewood valley and at the natural-treasure gardens, so a stay here in late spring can be built around the calendar. The practical shape is a car: the reservoir, the cave and the peaks are spread across a few kilometres of hill road, the sites are open in daylight hours, the last stretch to any of them is better navigated than promised, and a hill address can sit a few kilometres from both the water and the gate. Bring the appetite for rock and water, not for jungle or beach.

What the Rooms Are Like

At the Hualiju house the room is part of a themed hillside property, with the rosewood story around it and the facilities of a small resort, so it suits a couple or a family who want the mountain and do not mind paying for the setting. The township rooms are basic, cheap and close to the road, and they are the option for a walker or a rider who only needs a bed under the peaks. Room counts and firm rates are not published for either, so book by the view and confirm the day’s price rather than a listed one, and ask specifically how far the room is from the water and how far from the gate, since a mountain address can be kilometres from both. If the rosewood workshop is the draw, ask the house what can be seen and bought on site rather than assuming a fixed programme.

Practicalities

Price. On 2 October 2026 no stable rate could be confirmed for the Hualiju house; treat the township reference band of about 150 to 350 yuan a night as a guide only, and take the day’s figure from the platform. The scenic area’s own costs are separate and firmer: the cave and shuttle from 76 yuan an adult, 147 for two and 210 for two adults and a child, with the ground and the reservoir viewing platform free. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.

Address. Pin by the village and the town: the Hualiju house at 金炳村 Jīnbǐng Cūn, Jinbing village, in 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn, Donghe Town, with the platforms also listing it under the Little Guilin and Exianling scenic-area names; the township rooms along the Donghe streets; and the scenic area at 娥仙岭生态文化旅游区 Éxiānlǐng Shēngtài Wénhuà Lǚyóu Qū on the Daguangba reservoir. Confirm the address against the platform, since this property travels under more than one name.

Rooms. Choose between a themed hillside room at the rosewood house and a plain township bed, and confirm the day’s rate before booking, because no stable figure is published for either. Ask how far the room sits from the reservoir and the cave, and whether breakfast and the scenic tickets are included, since neither is certain here.

Getting there. The city’s two high-speed stops are both on the coast, 东方站 Dōngfāng Zhàn, Dongfang station, in 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, and 金月湾站 Jīnyuèwān Zhàn, Jinyuewan station, in 板桥镇 Bǎnqiáo Zhèn, Banqiao Town; 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn has no platform, so the last leg is a car, left to navigation rather than a fixed number. From Dongfang station the run to 三亚 Sānyà is about an hour and ten minutes for 47 to 61 yuan and to 海口东 Hǎikǒu Dōng about an hour and twenty-four minutes for 84 to 92, both snapshots. Readers should also keep the two stations straight: there is no Banqiao station on the high-speed line, and 感城站 Gǎnchéng Zhàn, Gancheng station, built in 1958, is a conventional-line stop. By road the town is reached from the coastal towns by hill road, and the reservoir’s own spread is the landmark to steer by. All distances and times are snapshots to check against navigation.

Where to stay: a themed room at the Hualiju house if the rosewood setting and the small-resort facilities are the point, an ordinary room in 东河镇 Dōnghé Zhèn, Donghe Town, if the mountains are the only luxury needed, and the day’s figure taken from the platform for either – all under the karst peaks of 俄贤岭 Éxiánlǐng, Exianling, and the 大广坝水库 Dàguǎngbà Shuǐkù, Daguangba reservoir.

flowcloud would say that a city known for its coast keeps its best secret inland, and that the correct way to sleep in Donghe is in a room facing the reservoir, because the limestone towers are the exhibit and the water is the frame, and neither of them is rainforest.
