Eleven Rooms at the Bridgehead, in the Old Town of Yudong

Chongqing is a municipality of southwest China, and the district this article is about has a government seat it no longer uses. 巴南区 Bā’nán Qū, Banan District, was created in December 1994 when 巴县 Bāxiàn, Baxian County, was dissolved, and the county seat it inherited was 鱼洞街道 Yúdòng Jiēdào, Yudong Subdistrict. In 2009 the district government moved out to 龙洲湾 Lóngzhōuwān, Longzhouwan, and Yudong became what it now is: the old town, the industrial side of the city, and a low residential quarter at the western end of the 巴滨路 Bābīn Lù, Babin Road. There is no large hotel stock here and almost no chain brand, which is the honest reason this article is written about a building with eleven rooms. It opened in 2010 at 巴县大道 4 号, at the head of the old bridge, and it is the only accommodation in Banan older than the district’s own tourist economy.

A low street of shuttered shop houses at dusk in an old riverside town, a lit corner at the head of a bridge, a few parked scooters along the kerb.

The address is the whole argument for it. The old bridge is where 巴滨路 Bābīn Lù, Babin Road, begins, an eighteen-and-a-half-kilometre road running from the Yudong bridgehead to 二塘 Èrtáng, Ertang, in 南岸区 Nán’àn Qū, Nan’an, opened in May 2012. It carries ten kilometres of cherry avenue, nine of cycleway, twenty of pedestrian path and thirteen of river frontage, with eight platforms facing the water and eighteen parks along it. Staying at the bridgehead means you can walk to the water in ten minutes and into the old town in five, and proximity, not amenity, is the product. The industrial district behind it is the other half. 重庆大江工业有限责任公司 Chóngqìng Dàjiāng Gōngyè Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī, Chongqing Dajiang Industrial, stands in Yudong Subdistrict over roughly four square kilometres with 7,463 employees, assembled from nine Third Front plants relocated inland between 1988 and a 2003 completion acceptance.

What you book is eleven rooms and a policy sheet. The house runs check-in from fourteen hundred and checkout by twelve, has a front desk around the clock, does not serve breakfast, will not add a bed, and has no cot. The platform score is 4.3 – and it rests on twelve reviews. That number is worth stating in the same breath as the score, because a 4.3 from twelve observations and a 4.3 from twelve hundred are different kinds of information, and this is the article a reader will read at eleven at night with one bag. The reviews are also where the honest part of this property lives: a stay on 2 November 2024 reports cockroaches in the room and equipment in poor repair. That complaint is printed because an eleven-room house opened in 2010 is exactly the property where it is true, and because a travel article that hid it would be recommending a different building.

A small guest house reception at night, a lit counter with a key rack behind it, a staircase rising at the back, worn lino and a corridor light on.

Read against that, the case for staying here is not that it is good but that it is exactly eleven rooms with a fixed address and a desk that never closes. There is no pool, no view, no breakfast, no family room and no bath in the inventory description. What there is is a bed, a bathroom, a desk, a door on a street that empties at midnight, and a five-minute walk from the longest riverside road in the district. The room count is also the practical constraint, because eleven rooms means eleven chances to be full, which is why a same-night walk-in is unlikely and a no-show is a loss the house cannot absorb.

The comparison that matters is not with another hotel in Banan, because there is not one of this kind. It is with the rest of the district’s stock, which sorts into the bands other Banan articles have already priced: a spring belt to the south-west where the water is the product, a river town where the guesthouse sits on the quay, a national AAAA ancient town where a Republican mansion costs what a mansion costs, and here, in the old city, a room with no ambition. Yunzhuan Mountain rises behind Yudong at 650 metres with a 3A scenic area and a stockade at its foot listed as the first batch of Baxian County heritage in 1988. What is not on offer: the workers’ housing compounds inside the Dajiang estate have no verifiable accommodation listing anywhere, so the industrial background here is walkable, not checkable-into.

Practicalities

Price. No band, because none of the numbers on this page describe a neighbourhood. The property is a single eleven-room guest house opened in 2010 at No. 4 Baxian Avenue, and its platform score of 4.3 is drawn from twelve reviews, both figures measured on booking pages in October 2026 and both worth quoting together. The honest comparison is against the rest of Banan’s stock on the same date: the river-town guesthouses on Mudong’s quay ran 314 to 528 yuan, the Republican mansion conversion at Fengsheng was 181 on one platform and 120 to 183 on another, and the spring belt at Nanquan started at 159. Yudong’s advantage is that a room on the old bridgehead is not competing with those on a view, and the rate question is better settled by asking the desk than by reading a range off a map.

Address. 重庆市巴南区鱼洞巴县大道 4 号 – Yudong Subdistrict, Baxian Avenue 4, Banan District – with the wording every listing uses, at the head of the old bridge. The road outside is where 巴滨路 Bābīn Lù, Babin Road, begins, which is what makes the walk to the water the point of the address. Yunzhuan Mountain’s 3A scenic area sits behind the town at 650 metres, and the Babin Road wetland park is on the river side, open between eight and ten in the evening with last entry at nine.

Rooms. Eleven, and nothing beyond the basics is on the inventory. A bed and a bathroom, a desk, a corridor, a window on an old street. No breakfast is served, so eat before you check in. Extra beds cannot be added and there is no cot, which makes the family rooms other Banan towns offer unavailable here by policy rather than by shortage. The room to ask about is the one at the back, away from bridgehead traffic, because the front rooms take the noise of a road that leads to the longest riverside walk in the district.

Getting there. Yudong is on the road, not on the metro: the district’s rail line reaches the southern river towns and the wetland park, but the old town is served by buses and taxis along Baxian Avenue and Babin Road, and the bridgehead is where most of them pass. Driving is simple, since the road east is the riverside road and the road north goes to the district’s new seat at Longzhouwan, and parking near the bridge is easier than parking on the new town side. Plan the return before you book: the last buses thin out after dark, and this is a street that empties at midnight.

A guest room at night in a small old-town house, a made bed under a plain wall, a wall-mounted lamp and a window onto a lit street with a bridge railing beyond.

A night at the bridgehead has a shape that comes from the room count rather than the room. Afternoon is the walk out: five minutes back into the old town’s low streets, ten forward onto Babin Road with the river on your left and the bridge you slept over behind you. Late afternoon is the bridge itself, which is the best seat in the district for watching the water go under something. Evening is the old town eating, and it is the reason to come back at all – small shopfronts, no ticket, no opening hour, and none of the staging the ancient towns have. Then the room, which has no view to keep you up and a corridor you will hear. Morning is the river frontage at eight, when the light comes off the water and the road has not started.

flowcloud would say that this is the only eleven-room property in Banan and the only one where the review count is smaller than the number of rooms, and that the correct way to book it is to take it for one night on a weekday, read the twelve reviews and the November 2024 complaint before you pay rather than after you arrive, and go on the strength of the address, because nothing else about this house is trying to sell you anything.

Where to stay: this house if you want one night on a real old Banan street and the walk to the water is the plan, and only if you have read the reviews including the one about cockroaches and ageing equipment; a Nanquan bathhouse room if the water is why you came, at three to four times the rate; and a Mudong riverside room if you want the river at the window rather than ten minutes’ walk from it. And bring breakfast with you, because none is served and eleven rooms means no plan B.
