Beds in the Lighting Capital, Booked Around the Lamp Fair

古镇镇 Gǔzhèn Zhèn is the lighting capital at the north-west corner of 中山市 Zhōngshān Shì – a prefecture city with no counties or districts under it, so the town itself is the address – and its business is lamps on a scale the word industry barely covers: annual sales at the hundred-billion-yuan scale, one and a half million square metres of showroom space, and hotels booked not by seasons but by lamp fairs. In 2026 the Guzhen International Lighting Fair runs three times, and the two bookend hotels – a 250-room Westin stacked sixty-one floors up and the veteran Guomao – anchor the bed market the fair fills.

The fair is the calendar. The 古镇国际灯饰博览会 Gǔzhèn Guójì Dēngshì Bólǎnhuì, the Guzhen International Lighting Fair, fills the 灯都古镇会议展览中心 Dēngdū Gǔzhèn Huìyì Zhǎnlǎn Zhōngxīn plus eight branch lamp malls in a 1+8+N layout; the 2026 year runs three editions – the 34th from 18 to 21 March, a summer edition from 26 to 28 May, and the 35th from 22 to 25 October – so the edition numbers and the calendar years no longer correspond, and nothing here says “annual”. The scale is real: the spring 2025 edition counted 107,307 trade visitors, 5,034 of them from 120 countries and regions, and the 2026 summer edition drew over 300 exhibitors and 40,000-plus pre-registrations. For the autumn edition, pre-register before 15:00 on 18 October and the 100-yuan on-site fee is waived.

What fair week does to room rates is the honest gap in the record. The fair office runs a hotel-booking channel, but no local report quantifies the surge – the price of a Guzhen room during the 35th edition is not a number this article can print. What can be printed is the general trade fact, not a Zhongshan finding: hotels around exhibition centres reprice dynamically, and in big convention cities five-star rates during major fairs multiply several times. Book the fair windows months ahead.

The tall bookend is 中山利和威斯汀酒店 Zhōngshān Lìhé Wēisītīng Jiǔdiàn, the Westin Zhongshan Lihe, at 98 同兴路 Tóngxīng Lù, floors 39 to 60 of the Lihe centre that holds the fair’s 灯博中心 venue and the Lihe mall – note the English name, Lihe, which official releases use while one aggregator prints Guzhen. It is a 250-room house in a 61-floor tower with a sky pool on the 42nd floor; the “350-metre” tower height and the opening month circulate only on opening-release material, so this article carries neither as fact. On 30 September 2026 Ctrip rated it 4.7 across about 4,330 reviews from 578 yuan, and 同程 Tóngchéng quoted from 698 at 4.8; the five-star tag is the platforms’ description.

What the Rooms Are Like

The low bookend is 中山国贸大酒店 Zhōngshān Guómào Dà Jiǔdiàn, the Guomao Hotel, on 中兴大道 Zhōngxīng Dàdào – encyclopaedia-grade sources say it opened in August 2002, became the first five-star in a Zhongshan town district in October 2004 and in October 2024 the city’s first by direct one-pass award; the room count is 280 in one entry and 345 in another, both printed. The 国贸广场 complex around it stalled in 2020 and was re-let in 2023 as 永利国贸广场 Yǒnglì Guómào Guǎngchǎng; no live rate for the Guomao itself was found, so none is printed. Between the bookends the chain band runs cheap: the Atour inside 华艺广场 Huáyì Guǎngchǎng from 369 yuan at 4.8; 华裕置地 Huáyù Zhìdì from 183; the 东方大酒店 from 167; the 灯都时代酒店 from 206 – snapshots all. The room follows the money: the Westin’s is the high, quiet corporate room, the Guomao’s the older banquet-house room behind its twenty-six private dining rooms, and the chains’ a clean desk room for a catalogue-carrying buyer – which is why the fair diary, not the room type, sets the bill.

Practicalities

Price. On 30 September 2026 the town quoted from 578 yuan for the Westin on Ctrip and 698 on 同程 Tóngchéng, 369 for the Atour, 206 and under for the mid chains and 167 at the cheapest, with the Guomao carrying no live snapshot. The swing variable is the three fair windows – 18-21 March, 26-28 May, 22-25 October 2026 – for which no local quantified surge report exists, only the industry-general rule noted above. Every figure floats.

Address. Everything anchors to 古镇镇 Gǔzhèn Zhèn, 中山市 Zhōngshān Shì: the Westin at 同兴路 98 号 Tóngxīng Lù 98 Hào, the Guomao on 中兴大道 Zhōngxīng Dàdào, the Atour at 中兴大道南 1 号 inside 华艺广场, 华裕置地 at 新兴中路 26 号, and the fair centre with its eight branch malls. A Hilton Garden Inn at 同兴路 103 号 is also in Guzhen – do not confuse it with the Lihe mall in the East district.

Rooms. Ask which side of the tower your Westin room faces, because the fair-hall side is both the view and the noise, and ask whether your fair week carries a minimum-stay rule. In the 永利国贸广场 Yǒnglì Guómào Guǎngchǎng complex, confirm which house you are booking, since the old five-star name and the new chain stores share the address. And expect the lift queue at checkout, when the house empties at once.

Getting there. The town’s rail point is 古镇站 Gǔzhèn Zhàn, on the Jiangmen branch of the 广珠城际 Guǎngzhū Chéngjì: trains to Guangzhou South run via 小榄站 Xiǎolǎn Zhàn – since July 2021 the enlarged town that took in 东升 Dōngshēng – and no direct timetable snapshot was found, so read 12306 before booking. On the main line, 中山站 Zhōngshān Zhàn and 中山北站 Zhōngshān Běi Zhàn reach Guangzhou South in 29 to 40 minutes for about 40 yuan second class on the timetable checked on 30 September 2026. From Shenzhen the 深中通道 Shēn-Zhōng Tōngdào, open since 30 June 2024 at about 24 kilometres and roughly thirty minutes, then west across the city by car.

Where to stay: a high-floor room at the Westin Zhongshan Lihe if you are exhibiting and want the fair hall at your feet, the Guomao Hotel if you want the town’s veteran five-star story and a 中兴大道 Zhōngxīng Dàdào address, and the Atour inside 华艺广场 Huáyì Guǎngchǎng if the budget band is paying – all in 古镇镇 Gǔzhèn Zhèn, 中山市 Zhōngshān Shì, where the 2026 fair runs in March, May and October.

flowcloud would say that a town which sells light by the hundred billion has priced its beds to the fair calendar and not the weather, and that the correct way to sleep here is one floor below the delegations, because the buyer who booked in July is already asleep when you start searching in October.
