Chongqing is a municipality of southwest China, and the far end of 北碚区 Běibèi Qū, Beibei District, is where the official recommendations thin out into names without numbers. 金刀峡镇 Jīndāoxiá Zhèn, Jindaoxia Town, was enlarged in August 2005 when 偏岩镇 Piānyán Zhèn was abolished and folded into it, so 偏岩古镇 Piānyán Gǔzhèn, Pianyan Ancient Town, is a town inside Jindaoxia rather than a town of its own. The district’s agriculture and rural affairs committee named six village guesthouses on its January 2025 winter route. Not one of the six has a published rate, a street address or a telephone number on any booking surface checked. That is not a gap in the writing; it is the finding, and it comes first.
Here is what the official list actually gives you, which is a list of names and a description of one of them. The six are 金刀侠隐 Jīndāo Xiàyǐn, 小住·偏岩隐溪 Xiǎozhù Piānyán Yǐnxī, 浮岩间 Fúyánjiān, 慢漫崖居 Mànmàn Yájū, 闲居别苑 Xiánjū Biéyuàn and 派途·缙云山居民宿 Pàitú · Jǐnyúnshān Jū Mínsù, recommended on the route 线路一 Xiànlù yī, 乡野觅食，高山尝鲜, foraging in the wild, tasting high mountain. Of those, one has a description worth planning around: 金刀侠隐 stands inside 金刀岭森林公园 Jīndāolǐng Fēnglín Gōngyuán, Jindaoling Forest Park, on the park’s highest peak, about twenty minutes’ drive from Pianyan Ancient Town, with a white windmill and coloured houses in the park that locals have nicknamed after hobbit holes, and a telephone number, 18680866945, which is the only verifiable contact among the six. The other five have nothing at all. Around the scenic gate the situation is better and still rustic: 浸水湾农家乐民宿 Jìnshuǐwān Nóngjiālè Mínsù lies 184 metres from the gate, 开心农家乐民宿 Kāixīn Nóngjiālè Mínsù 427 metres, and there is 河畔之家农家乐 Hépàn Zhījiā Nóngjiālè in the town itself.
The canyon that all of this sits around is a real attraction with a real price dispute, and it is worth carrying the dispute with you. 金刀峡 Jīndāoxiá Scenic Area at 小塘村 1 号 is a karst gorge whose core route runs a thousand-step cloud ladder, a fright platform, a cave, Lion Head Gorge, a hanging waterfall and a thread of sky, with about five kilometres of trail, a cable car and a canyon boat combination, and a 4.5 Ctrip score. Four prices are in circulation – 69.90 yuan from one platform, 80 from a trip report, 123 for a combined ticket and 128 for a fuller one – and no official tariff was found. The reason to mention them here is that a homestay booking decision depends on what you are buying on the second day, and none of the six recommended inns will tell you the gate price for you.
The old town above the canyon is the second reason the area has any lodging at all, and its figures are firmer than the guesthouses’. 偏岩古镇 Piānyán Gǔzhèn was founded as 接龙场 Jiēlóngchǎng in 1655 and made a town in 1759, named for the sloping rock wall north of it; it was listed among Chongqing’s first batch of historic and cultural towns in 2002 and among the national list in 2007. A city renewal project started in September 2023 put close to 200 million yuan into roughly 20,000 square metres of the core street block, reorganised as three streets and two clusters, and in 2024 the town took 1.32 million visitors with tourism revenue above 80 million yuan. That is the volume that puts farm stays and guesthouses on the map at all, and it is also why the same platform that can price a chain hotel in the district seat cannot price a room above the gorge.
The one place in this batch that can be booked on a number is an hour and a half away, and it is in territory that was not Beibei until 7 November 2025. 悠斋·重庆森林酒庄民宿 Yōuzhāi · Chóngqìng Sēnlín Jiǔzhuāng Mínsù sits in 顺龙村 Shùnlóng Cūn, Shunlong Village, 5 社, about 200 metres northeast of the 篮子槽酒坊 Lánzǐ Cáo Jiǔfáng, Lanzicao winery, in 大盛镇 Dàshèng Zhèn, Daxing Town, at a Tongcheng floor of 133 yuan, with fishing, a laundry room, a hot spring, a tea room and a terrace, and rooms named 大床房, and 酒庄古典大床房, 酒庄古典双床房 and 酒庄古典单床房, the winery-classic series. Daxing came across from 渝北区 Yúběi Qū, Yubei District, in the November 2025 redrawing, so it is new territory, and the winery, not the canyon, is what makes the room a room. Two of its five transferred towns came across with nothing at all: 大湾 Dàwān, 兴隆 Xīnglóng and 茨竹 Cíbú return no accommodation listing, no rate and no address on any booking surface checked. Two of them have attractions – 放牛坪 Fàngniúpíng, a scenic area at the junction of two local roads in Cibu, and pear and plum orchards around the lake at 印盒村 Yìnhé Cūn, in Tongjing – but an attraction is not a bed, and no figure is printed for any of the three here rather than borrowed from a neighbour.
Practicalities
Price. Almost nothing, and that is the article’s main fact. The six guesthouses the district named in January 2025 – 金刀侠隐, 小住·偏岩隐溪, 浮岩间, 慢漫崖居, 闲居别苑 and 派途·缙云山居民宿 – publish no rate, no street address and no telephone number on any booking surface checked, and no rate is invented here. What can be quoted is the winery guesthouse in Daxing at 133 yuan on Tongcheng, read 5 October 2026, which is the only OTA-verifiable rate in this piece, and it is ninety minutes from the canyon rather than in it. Around the scenic gate, the farm stays at 184 metres and 427 metres have prices that are local and unpublished. A trip report from around 2024 puts a farmhouse meal at the gate at roughly 50 yuan a head for spring-water tofu pudding, free-range chicken soup and cured meat with wild mushrooms, and that is a meal figure rather than a room figure.
Address. 重庆市北碚区金刀峡镇 – Jindaoxia Town, Beibei District – is the address for all six recommended inns, and the descriptions that exist place 金刀侠隐 inside Jindaoling Forest Park on the highest peak, 20 minutes’ drive from Pianyan Ancient Town, telephone 18680866945. Around the gate: 浸水湾农家乐民宿 at 184 metres and 开心农家乐民宿 at 427 metres from the scenic entrance, and 河畔之家农家乐 in the town; 红楼·故事民宿 is at 胜天湖村桃子坪 Shèngtiānhú Cūn Táozǐpíng, at Tianhu Street. The winery guesthouse is at 重庆市北碚区大盛镇顺龙村 5 社篮子槽酒坊东北 200 米, telephone 15730080348. The scenic area itself is at 小塘村 1 号 Xiǎotáng Cūn 1 Hào.
Rooms. One set of names is verifiable and it belongs to the winery, where the choice is 大床房 against the 酒庄古典 series in double, twin and single, and the shared facilities include a hot spring, a tea room, a terrace and fishing. For the canyon inns, the only room description in circulation is descriptive rather than official: a forest-park peak with a windmill and hobbit-hole-coloured cabins. That is enough to know the aesthetic and not enough to book against, so these are telephone arrangements. 乡根乡舍 in 柳荫, twelve kilometres away, is the one nearby property with a published inventory, and even it is priced in 2021 money.
Getting there. Jindaoxia is a road and coach destination on the district’s western side, and the canyon is the reason for the road, so the practical question is not transport but whether you are staying on one side of a gate or the other. The metro does not reach the canyon; the nearest rail and metro nodes are in the district seat and along the Jialing valley, and the last leg is by bus or car. Daxing is different again, being on the far side of the district toward the Yubei border, which is why its verifiable room rate belongs in this article but its address belongs on a different day’s itinerary. Winter is the season the district markets, and the same warning applies as in the neighbouring village towns: these are unlit lanes after dark.
A day around Jindaoxia runs on the gorge and on the light. Morning is the canyon, and specifically the first two hours of it, because the trail through the cloud ladder is at its best before the coaches and after the overnight cold. Midday is the gate, the farm stays and the meal that a 2024 report put at about 50 yuan a head. Afternoon is the second good window in the gorge, or Pianyan Ancient Town seven kilometres up the road, which has been a national historic town since 2007 and took 1.32 million visitors in 2024. Late afternoon is the drive back down, which is the part of this landscape that takes longer than the map suggests. Evening is the courtyard, because a forest-park inn at night is a different proposition from a forest-park inn at midday. Then the room, and the sound of a valley that stops being loud at eleven.
flowcloud would say that the far end of Beibei is the only place in this district where the official recommendation list is more useful than the booking platforms, and that the correct way to book it is to treat all six inns as telephone-only, to check the canyon’s gate price on the day because four different numbers are in circulation, and to reserve one bookable night in Daxing so that the trip has an address with a number on it.
Where to stay: 金刀侠隐 if the park’s highest peak and the windmill are the plan, and on a telephone rather than a platform, since it is the one of the six with a number to call; 浸水湾农家乐民宿 or 开心农家乐民宿 if you want to be metres from the gate rather than above the valley, at local prices; and the winery guesthouse in Daxing if you would rather sleep somewhere you can book, on the understanding that it is ninety minutes from the canyon and the reason you are there is the wine. And ask for a phone number before you name a date, because for six of the seven places on this list there is nothing else to book against.
