甘海子夜,星空在枕。Gānhǎizi yè, xīngkōng zài zhěn – Night at Ganhaizi; the stars are on the pillow.
The stays at the foot of 玉龙雪山 Yùlóng Xuěshān Jade Dragon Snow Mountain come in three rings, and the ring is the decision. Inside the 景区 jǐngqū at 甘海子 Gānhǎizi Ganhaizi – the high meadow at about 3,100 m – there is exactly one hotel: 丽江金茂璞修·雪山酒店 Lìjiāng Jīnmào Púxiū Jinmao Purelax Mountain, a Marriott Design Hotels member, an all-suite house of 89 rooms, every one with an 86 m²-plus snow-facing terrace, quoted from about 3,400 yuan. The campsite ring sits at about 2,700 m – 途宿 Túsù campsite and GogagaLand’s glamping rows, 营位 yíngwèi camp pitches about 300-600 yuan and tents about 1,288. The town ring is 白沙 Báishā, 束河 Shùhé and the new town, from about 200 to 900 – 束河 Shùhé snow-view courtyards at the low end, the new-town chains at the middle, and the 火车站 Huǒchēzhàn station ring’s hot-spring villas at the top. The October 2026 snapshot’s honest shape is that the first ring buys the sunrise without the ropeway queue, the second buys the sky, and the third buys the nightlife – and only the first costs you sleep at 3,100 m.

The mountain’s own rules explain the rings. The 景区 jǐngqū entry is 100 yuan, the 冰川公园 Bīngchuān Gōngyuán glacier ropeway is quota-capped and its last car runs around 16:00, and the summit station sits at 4,506 m – so the two problems every visitor has are the early start and the altitude. The gentle alternatives matter to the ring question: the 云杉坪 Yúnshānpíng meadow ropeway’s upper station sits at about 3,240 m and the 牦牛坪 Máoniúpíng yak-meadow line at about 4,000 m, so a guest sleeping at 甘海子 Gānhǎizi can walk out at a civilised hour and still have the whole vertical range of the mountain above the room. Sleeping at 甘海子 Gānhǎizi solves the first problem and worsens the second: you wake with 玉龙十三峰 Yùlóng Shísān Fēng the thirteen peaks in the window, walk to the ropeway, and skip the 100-yuan entry as a hotel guest, but at 3,100 m the air is thin and most people should keep it to one night – drop to 白沙 Báishā at about 2,400 m for the first night if you fly in from the plain. The campsite ring is the compromise – dark sky, the hotel’s 480 m² 星空科技馆 xīngkōng kējìguǎn star-science hall, and cold nights. The town ring is the reverse trade: village dinners and guaranteed hot water, for a mountain you see rather than sleep under.

Practical shape: this is a one- or two-night decision, not a base. The 101路 Yīlíngyī Lù tourist line runs from 忠义市场 Zhōngyì Shìchǎng to the mountain (about 15 yuan a head), and taxis run to the new visitor centre where the shuttle train takes over; hotel guests get the shuttle to the ropeway station. Bring real cold-weather layers even in summer – the meadow is at 3,100 m and the wind is constant – and treat the ropeway as weather-dependent: when the wind is up, the glacier car stops and the 云杉坪 Yúnshānpíng meadow ropeway becomes the plan. The 蓝月谷 Lányuè Gǔ Blue Moon Valley below the ropeway stations is the walk between them, a terraced valley stream the meltwater cuts under the forest, and it is the one part of the area that costs nothing extra once you are inside. The 印象丽江 Yìnxiàng Lìjiāng outdoor show is a walk of about 15 minutes from the hotel, and the 玉龙雪山高尔夫俱乐部 Yùlóng Xuěshān Gāo’ěrfū Jùlèbù – the world’s longest golf course by Guinness record – sits next door. Peaks are 春节 Chūnjié, 国庆 Guóqìng and the summer weeks, and the glacier ticket needs booking days ahead in peak. Check all current fares, hours and the guest entry policy before you commit.
The Stays
Budget (≈200–450 yuan): 缦云里·日照金山 Mànyúnlǐ (inside the area, from about 416 yuan, 4.6, self-catering rooms in the mountains) is the in-area budget; the campsite ring – 途宿 Túsù and GogagaLand, camp pitches about 300-600 yuan and tents about 1,288 – is the dark-sky option at about 2,700 m; and 三沐·JINVA Sānmù at 白沙 Báishā (about 198 yuan, 4.9) is the town-ring value with a snow-view room. The honest shape is that the cheap ring is either a tent or a village room with a view.
Upscale (≈900–3,400 yuan): 丽江金茂璞修·雪山酒店 Lìjiāng Jīnmào Púxiū Jinmao Purelax Mountain, a Design Hotels member (甘海子 Gānhǎizi at about 3,100 m, 89 all-suite rooms from 86 m², 180° snow terraces, 4.8, more than 3,400 reviews, from about 3,400 yuan – guests skip the 100-yuan entry), is the mountain’s only in-area house, with the 480 m² star-science hall, the daily afternoon tea and the 纳西族 Nàxīzú tie-dye and 瓦猫 Wǎmāo workshops as the in-house programme; 美林东方·野奢温泉 Měilín Dōngfāng (the 火车站 Huǒchēzhàn station ring, from about 930 yuan, 4.8, hot-spring villas at low altitude) is the luxury alternative for anyone who wants the soak over the summit. The honest shape is that 900-3,400 buys the sunrise and the stars here, and nothing else does.
Getting there: the 101路 Yīlíngyī Lù tourist line from 忠义市场 Zhōngyì Shìchǎng (about 15 yuan a head) or a taxi to the new visitor centre and the shuttle train; inside the area, the hotel runs its own shuttle to the ropeway stations, and the last glacier car is around 16:00. 甘海子 Gānhǎizi is a meadow inside the 景区 jǐngqū, not a village – give a driver 玉龙雪山甘海子 Yùlóng Xuěshān Gānhǎizi or the hotel name, and allow for the entry checkpoint even as a guest.

flowcloud would say that the Yulong foot sells the sunrise – one in-area suite house at about 3,100 m, camps at about 2,700 m, town rooms from about 200 – and that the honest move is to give the mountain one night inside for the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān and drop to 白沙 Báishā for the rest, because the peaks are the view and the altitude is the price. All checked October 2026.
Where to stay: inside the area at 甘海子 Gānhǎizi for the one snow-morning night, the campsite ring at about 2,700 m for the stars, or 白沙 Báishā and 束河 Shùhé for the town-ring rooms with a mountain view; give a driver 玉龙雪山甘海子 Yùlóng Xuěshān Gānhǎizi or the hotel name, since the area is signed but the meadow is not an address. All checked October 2026.
