The stay in 六库 Liùkù – the prefectural capital, seat of 泸水市 Lúshuǐ Shì Lushui city, where the 怒江 Nùjiāng Nu River runs straight through town under the 怒江大桥 Nùjiāng Dàqiáo – is the 城区酒店 chéngqū jiǔdiàn city hotel: not a resort quarter but the prefecture’s working capital of chain-standard towers, business houses and a thin scatter of styled stays, arranged in loose bands along the river and the 怒江美丽公路 Nùjiāng Měilì Gōnglù ‘Beautiful Nujiang Highway’ (the G219 upgrade). The second band lines the approach roads – the 泸水 Lúshuǐ outskirts and the 片马 Piànmǎ border-road corridor toward the 缅甸 Miǎndiàn Myanmar gate – where transit hotels catch the late arrival. The third band is the few styled and star-standard houses on the higher terraces, selling the 怒江 Nùjiāng lit at night and the quiet above the traffic. Who it suits: transit nights on the canyon road, business travellers, and anyone using 六库 Liùkù as the springboard for the G219 north; who it does not suit: travellers who came to sleep inside a 古村落 gǔ cūnluò or on a mountainside – the capital is the transfer, and the 村寨 cūnzhài and ridge stays are a long drive away.
Practical shape: 六库 Liùkù is a one- or two-night base – the night you arrive and, usually, the night you leave. If you land late off the 怒江美丽公路 Nùjiāng Měilì Gōnglù (the bus from 大理 Dàlǐ is about five to six hours, worth confirming; from 保山 Bǎoshān shorter), take a riverside tower and drive the canyon at daylight; if you are touring, take the 江东 Jiāngdōng spine and walk the evening 夜市 yèshì, with the 怒江 Nùjiāng lit under the bridge as the set piece and the 漆油 qīyóu lacquer-oil and 手抓饭 shǒuzhuāfàn hand-grab rice for dinner. The honest season is November to April, dry and in the low twenties; the May-to-October rains bring humidity, brown water and cheap rooms, and the one week to book ahead is the February 澡塘会 zǎotáng huì, when the 怒族 Nùzú baths near town draw the county. Note the 片马 Piànmǎ border-port day-trip west if you want a 缅甸 Miǎndiàn glimpse without leaving China (worth confirming the access).
