Longqing Gorge Stays: Gorge-Gate Farmyards, Fired Brick Kangs and Ice-Lantern Winters of Yanqing District, Beijing
峡口灯冰千尺影,农家炕暖一宵春。Xiákǒu dēng bīng qiān chǐ yǐng, nóngjiā kàng nuǎn yī xiāo chūn – At the gorge mouth the ice lanterns cast a thousand feet of shadow; in the farmhouse the warm kang makes one night of spring.
The stay around 龙庆峡 Lóngqìng Xiá Longqing Gorge is not a resort strip and not a hotel zone – it is, plainly put, the farmyard and guesthouse belt that wraps the gorge’s southern gate: the village beds of 古城村 Gǔchéng cūn Gucheng village in 旧县镇 Jiùxiàn Zhèn Jiuxian township, in the northern hills of 延庆区 Yánqìng Qū Yanqing District, 北京 Běijīng Beijing, where the 古城水库 Gǔchéng Shuǐkù Gucheng reservoir was cut into a limestone gorge in the 1970s and renamed for the view, where the boat pier and the cliff stairways stand fifteen minutes’ walk above the village, and where the winter 冰灯 bīngdēng ice-lantern festival turns the same gorge into a lit tunnel of ice from early January. Three bands hold the beds: the yards on the lane to the south gate, walk-to-the-ticket-office rooms; the farmhouses a kilometre back toward 旧县 Jiùxiàn, cheaper and quieter with the bus stop at the corner; and a scatter of converted courtyards on the slope above, with proper bathrooms and a wood stove. Rooms are 火炕 huǒkàng kang beds in the older yards and ordinary 标间 biāojiān doubles in the rebuilt ones; heating is central, or coal and wood; parking is the yard or the lane outside it.

Call it honestly: ¥180–400 a night in the October 2026 snapshot, which makes this the cheapest honest bed in the district and one of the best-value nights anywhere within an hour of the city. A plain 火炕 huǒkàng room in an older yard runs ¥180–260, a rebuilt room with a private bathroom and a stove ¥260–400, and the converted courtyards at the top of the lane ask ¥350–450 with breakfast. Those are midweek October numbers. The gorge has two narrow, sharp peak windows: the first ten days of October, when the maples in the gorge turn and every coach in the north runs here, and the 冰灯 bīngdēng weeks from early January into late February, when rates go to 1.5x and the yards fill with families. Outside those windows – most of November, all of March – prices fall to the bottom of the range and you can negotiate. Ask whether the quote includes 三餐 sān cān three meals, which many yards bundle at ¥60–80 a head and which usually beats eating at the gorge gate (worth confirming the details for your dates).

The honest star is the five-minute walk. Nowhere else in Yanqing do you sleep this close to a major sight for this little money; the gate is a stroll rather than a drive, and in ice-lantern season that means you can go in at dusk, come back for dinner and go in again once the lights are fully up, which nobody day-tripping from the city can do. What gets oversold is the word 民宿 mínsù itself, which here often means a spare room in a working farmhouse with a shared bathroom down the corridor and a television going in the next room; the “gorge view” rooms generally look at the approach road and a retaining wall; and the farmhouse dinners are hearty and near-identical from yard to yard – 柴鸡 cháijī stew, 摊鸡蛋 tān jīdàn griddle omelette, 贴饼子 tiē bǐngzi corn cakes (worth confirming whether dinner is included or charged by the dish). The walls are thin, the lanes dark, and the heating in the older yards is either very good or not at all – ask which (worth confirming per house).
The self-aware postscript: an editor who came up for the January lanterns took the cheapest 火炕 huǒkàng room she could find, spent forty minutes learning from the 老板娘 lǎobǎnniáng landlady how the flue is dammed at night so the bricks hold their heat till morning, and then slept better than she does at home – waking to a frozen valley, a bowl of 棒子面粥 bàngzimian zhōu corn porridge, and the gorge’s cliff line going pink above the yard wall. She went in twice that day. Yanqing holds four other kinds of bed and they are not interchangeable: the town chains at 延庆城区 Yánqìng chéngqū when you need a desk and a car park, the wall-foot courtyards at 岔道 Chàdào for the dawn climb, the 火炕 huǒkàng banquet yards at 柳沟 Liǔgōu for the tofu tables, and the high valley at 海坨 Hǎituó for July. The gorge is the cheapest door and, in January, the warmest.

flowcloud would say that the gorge stay is a bed bought for the water and the ice – Gucheng farmyard to Jiuxian guesthouse in the October 2026 snapshot, ¥180–400 and the cheapest honest night in the district – and that the honest move is to walk to the gate, eat in the yard and let the cliffs do the decorating, because the five minutes are the amenity and the thin walls are the price – the gorge keeps the only echo. All checked October 2026.
Where to stay: Stay in 古城村 Gǔchéng cūn at the gorge’s south gate if the boat and the ice lanterns are the point – you walk in while everyone else drives. Sleep a lane back from the approach road if you are a light sleeper, since coach engines start early in lantern season. 旧县镇 Jiùxiàn Zhèn is the quieter, cheaper fallback, five minutes further out. January lantern weekends and the first week of October are the two spikes. All checked October 2026.
