The culture framing matters here: the 摩梭人 Mósuōrén Mosuo are a matrilineal people – the 祖母屋 Zǔmùwū grandmother’s room is the house’s heart, descent runs through the mother’s line, and the visiting-partner custom known as 走婚 zǒuhūn is a long-standing social arrangement, not a performance. Sleep in a village, take the room as a room, and let the household be what it is.
Practical shape: the lake is a two-night minimum – one night is all road, and the morning mist and the star field are the reason to stay. The road in from 丽江 Lìjiāng runs about four hours over the mountains (check the current bus and road conditions before you set out; 宁蒗 Nínglàng and 西昌 Xīchāng are the other gates), and the ring road of about 70-76 km is done by scooter, e-bike or chartered car, since walking it is a multi-day project. The 景区 jǐngqū ticket is about 70 yuan, valid seven days, and the honest plan is sunrise on your own shore and sunset at 女神湾 Nǚshén Wān. Altitude is mild at 2,690 m but the nights are cold – heating and hot water are the two room checks that matter between October and April. Boats run from 大落水 Dàluòshuǐ and 里格 Lǐgé out to 里务比岛 Lǐwùbǐ Dǎo, and most inns will arrange the boat and the 篝火晚会 Gōuhuǒ Wǎnhuì bonfire evening if you ask. Budget (≈100–200 yuan): 泸沽湖沐芸尚居客栈 Mùyún Shàngjū (大落水上村7号, from about 94 yuan, 4.9) is the honest floor by the arrival village; 次第花开客栈 Cìdì Huākāi (大洛水村14号, about 179 yuan, 4.7) runs 摩梭木楞 Mósuō Mùléng timber rooms mixed with simple lake-view doubles; 泸沽湖卓玛家园湖景艺术客栈 Zhuómǎ Jiāyuán (里格村 Lǐgé village, from about 181 yuan, 4.5) holds the cheap band on the postcard bay. The shape is family-run rooms with a lake window, 大床 dàchuáng and 双床 shuāngchuáng, and the two checks are hot water and whether the window faces the water.
Upscale (≈350–800 yuan): 泸沽湖银湖岛大酒店 Yínhúdǎo (红崖子片区 Hóngyázǐ, four-star, 4.7, 273 reviews, from about 260 yuan) is the lake’s full-service house; 泸沽湖云水山庄 Yúnshuǐ Shānzhuāng (大落水下村湖滨路32号, 4.9, from about 210 yuan) runs sunrise suites with 地暖 dìnuǎn underfloor heating; 泸沽湖悦莲庄达布墅院 Yuèliánzhuāng (大落水村14号, 4.9, from about 339 yuan) and 摩梭墅苑 Mósuō Shùyuàn (大落水村湖滨路, 4.8, from about 354 yuan, 180° lake view) are the courtyard-villa end. On the quiet coves, 泸沽湖有风·lake view villa Yǒufēng (蒗放码头店 Làngfàng Mǎtóu, by 官地花海码头 Guāndì Huāhǎi Mǎtóu, 4.9, 274 reviews) and 泸沽湖观棠·一栖一舍 Guāntáng (蒗放完小西北200米, 4.9, 152 reviews) are the names – the coves quote lower than 里格 Lǐgé.
Getting there: about four hours by mountain road from 丽江 Lìjiāng (buses run to 大落水 Dàluòshuǐ; 宁蒗 Nínglàng county town and 西昌 Xīchāng in Sichuan are the other gates); the 景区 jǐngqū ticket runs about 70 yuan, valid seven days. Inside the ring, a scooter or chartered car covers the 70-76 km shore road, and boats leave from 大落水 Dàluòshuǐ and 里格 Lǐgé. Give a driver the village plus the inn name – 大落水村 Dàluòshuǐ Cūn, 里格村 Lǐgé Cūn or 蒗放村 Làngfàng Cūn – because the shore road has no useful landmarks.
