雪山为屏，日照金山。Xuěshān wéi píng, rìzhào jīnshān – The snow mountain is the screen; the sun lights the golden peak.
The stays at the foot of 梅里雪山 Méilǐ Xuěshān Meili Snow Mountain sit in 德钦 Déqīn Deqin county, about 3-4.5 hours by road west of 香格里拉 Xiānggélǐlā Shangri-La, facing the 卡瓦格博 Kǎwǎgébó Kawagarbo peak (6,740 m), the 太子十三峰 Tàizǐ Shísān Fēng “Thirteen Prince Peaks” and the dawn phenomenon called 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān – “the golden mountain in sunlight”. There are two addresses, and the address is the decision. 飞来寺 Fēilái Sì Feilai Temple (about 3,500 m) is the mature strip – a row of 观景酒店 guānjǐng jiǔdiàn view-hotels along the 214国道 214 Guódào National Highway, every one with a 观景台 guānjǐngtái viewing terrace pointed at 卡瓦格博 Kǎwǎgébó. 雾浓顶 Wùnóngdǐng Wunongding – the 十三白塔迎宾台 Shísān Báitǎ Yíngbīntái “Thirteen White Stupas Welcome Terrace” – sits about 20 km south, quieter, with the whole 十三峰 shísān fēng range in the window but fewer restaurants and no direct bus. The October 2026 snapshot runs three bands: budget rooms about 240-350 yuan, mid-range view inns about 350-900, and upscale designed houses about 900-2,200 yuan (the road in is half a day, so the price swings with 春节 Chūnjié, 国庆 Guóqìng and the winter 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān season). The stock is 大床 dàchuáng and 双床 shuāngchuáng with a mountain-facing window, plus 供氧 gōngyǎng oxygen and 地暖 dìnuǎn underfloor heating as standard at altitude; what you buy is the floor facing 卡瓦格博 Kǎwǎgébó, not the room type – the honest test is whether the window opens on the peak or the car park.
The address is the decision. 飞来寺 Fēilái Sì is where the buses stop – the most stock, the 观景台 guānjǐngtái viewing platform, the restaurants and the night market across the 214国道 214 Guódào National Highway. 雾浓顶 Wùnóngdǐng is the ridge with the wider frame – its 十三白塔 shísān báitǎ thirteen white stupas sit in the foreground and the 十三峰 shísān fēng whole range fills the window, but the restaurants are fewer and there is no direct bus. The culture framing matters: 梅里 Méilǐ is among Tibetan Buddhism’s holiest mountains – 卡瓦格博 Kǎwǎgébó is a 神山 shénshān sacred peak, not a climb, and the 经幡 jīngfān prayer flags and 玛尼堆 mǎníduī mani piles along the 转经道 zhuànjīng dào kora path are living worship, not decoration. Sleep in a view-hotel, take the room as a room, and let the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān be the reason.
Practical shape: the mountain is a two-night minimum – one night is all road, and the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān at 6-7 a.m. is the reason to stay. The bus from 香格里拉 Xiānggélǐlā to 飞来寺 Fēilái Sì runs from about 8 a.m., about 4.5 hours, roughly 64 yuan (book via the 迪庆交运 Dìqìng Jiāoyùn transport account); 包车 bāochē chartered car runs 600-800 yuan. At 3,500 m the air is thin – most people feel it – so 供氧 gōngyǎng in the room and a calm first evening are the two checks; skip the shower if you feel light-headed. The 景区 jǐngqū has free public 观景台 guānjǐngtái plus paid ones; the honest plan is sunrise from your own terrace and the 白塔 báitǎ stupas at golden hour. The 明永冰川 Míngyǒng Bīngchuān Mingyong Glacier and the 金沙江大拐弯 Jīnshājiāng Dàguǎiwān Yangtze bend are the day trips. Check band prices, the bus timetable and the altitude advice.
The Stays
Budget (≈240–350 yuan): 梅里悦居民宿 Méilǐ Yuèjū (飞来寺, ~276 yuan, 大床/双床/三人间) and 可可酒店 Kěkě (飞来寺小组21号, ~241 yuan, 电梯) hold the cheap band; 格瓦坚·雪山观景酒店 Géwǎjiān (飞来寺, ~328 yuan, 4.8新开业, 位置优越) is the value pick with a peak view. The check is which floor faces 卡瓦格博 Kǎwǎgébó.
Upscale (≈900–2,200 yuan): 德钦既下山·梅里SUNYATA Jìxiàshān (雾浓顶, ~2,188 yuan, 9.6, 侘寂设计+供氧+地暖, 专属观景台) is the top of the band; 德钦高山别庄·梅里酒店 (~1,241 yuan, 9.5, 飞来寺第一排正对主峰) and 梅里泊度酒店 (雾浓顶, ~1,200-1,800, 落地窗+顶楼露台) are the design end. The honest shape is that 900-2,200 buys the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān from bed, not a pool.
Getting there: about 4.5 hours by bus from 香格里拉 Xiānggélǐlā to 飞来寺 Fēilái Sì (roughly 64 yuan, from 独克宗东门/客运站/动车站, book via 迪庆交运 Dìqìng Jiāoyùn); 包车 bāochē 600-800 yuan. 雾浓顶 Wùnóngdǐng has no direct bus – some hotels run a shuttle, or take the Feilai bus and a short transfer. Give a driver the inn name plus 梅里雪山 Méilǐ Xuěshān.
flowcloud would say that the Meili stay is a mountain window with a bed in front of it – 241 yuan budget to 2,200 for the Wunongding house in the October 2026 snapshot – and that the honest move is to give the peak two nights and sleep in a view-hotel rather than the county town, because the 日照金山 Rìzhào Jīnshān at six is the room’s real amenity.
