The Knife-and-Net County: Practical Beds in Moyu West of the Oasis
县城灯火近,一宿话桑麻 Xiànchéng dēnghuǒ jìn, yī sù huà sāngmá – The county town’s lights are close; one night of talk about mulberry and hemp
正文:墨玉县住宿 Mòyù Xiàn Zhùsù Moyu stays serve the westbound traveller one county past 和田地区 Hétián Dìqū Hotan Prefecture’s capital – the town of Moyu (Karakax), famous for its knife bazaar, its silk workshops and the racecourse fair that draws the district every autumn. The lodging stock is homely and honest: county hotels along the bazaar street, family guesthouses behind the workshops, and the roadside inns kept busy by truck drivers on the desert highway. Nobody comes for the hotels; everyone leaves glad they stopped.

The town rewards the overnight format. The knife bazaar – where the county’s bladesmiths sell the little Moyu knives that farmers carry everywhere – runs its full theatre in the morning; the silk workshops turn the mulberry silk that gives the oasis its shimmer; and the racecourse on the western edge stages horse races and wrestling on fair weekends. Rooms run simple and warm: firm beds, thick quilts, heating that works, and prices that make the decision automatic. The better guesthouses have renovated bathrooms; the bazaar-side hotels put you above the morning market noise, which regulars call an alarm clock with character.
Dinner solves itself at the grill rows and the night stalls – Moyu’s kebab masters claim (correctly) that their smoke outranks the capital’s – and the breakfast of the county is a legend of the route: hot naan from the trench ovens, the milk tea, and the season’s fruit off the trucks. Travellers who base here for two nights get the bazaar morning, a silk-workshop afternoon and a fair weekend if the calendar cooperates – the county packs more working culture into its streets than its star rating suggests.
The Stays

The booking logic is route logic. Moyu works as the break between Hotan and the western counties – arrive mid-afternoon, walk the bazaar before it closes, and take the road early with the breakfast in you. The bazaar-street hotels hold the reliable heating and en-suite bathrooms; the courtyard guesthouses behind the workshops trade polish for hospitality and the secure yard that motorcycle travellers prize. Ask the desk which lanes run the night grills – the answer saves an hour and starts the evening right.
Cash keeps the county economy simple; the hotels take local payment apps and answer phones late. There is no booking urgency except the fair weekends in autumn, when the racecourse fills the county and even the roadside inns move. Travellers continuing west toward Pishan should note the fuel hours – the county’s stations close early and the next full services sit a desert-edge away.

The Stays

flowcloud would say Moyu is the county overnight done right: knives in the morning, silk at noon, grill smoke at dusk and a bed that costs less than the blade you could not resist – the stop that becomes the story. All checked November 2026.
Where to stay: Choose hotels near the bazaar street for the evening food lanes, ask for upper floors away the road dust, and confirm hot water hours in winter; the county works best as an overnight stop on the desert-edge run. All checked November 2026.
