Guesthouses in the Poetry Valley: Staying Along the Nanxi
滩声入枕竹烟碧,一宿溪头梦亦清 Tān shēng rù zhěn zhú yān bì, yī xiǔ xītóu mèng yì qīng – Rapids sound into the pillow through green bamboo mist; one night by the stream leaves even the dreams clear
楠溪江住宿 Nánxī Jiāng Zhùsù the stays along the 楠溪江 Nánxī Jiāng Nanxi River divide between the old villages – converted farmhouses inside 芙蓉村 Fúróng Cūn Furong and 苍坡村 Cāngpō Cūn Cangpo’s stone lanes – and the riverside lodges on the gravel bars downstream, where decks hang over water clear enough to count the pebbles. The valley runs quiet after the day-trippers leave: rafts tied up at dusk, village gates shut on their Song-dynasty plans, and the night sounds all river.

The village conversions are the character pick: original timber frames, courtyard wells, hosts cooking the hill greens and river snail soup that the valley eats. Staying inside Cangpo after the gates close means walking the brush-and-inkstone lanes alone under lanterns – the village at its most itself.

The riverside lodges own the mornings: mist on the shallows, egrets working the bars, rafts sliding past your window before breakfast. Down at 竿头渡 Yàntóudù Yantoudai, the main raft put-in, boats push off before the mist burns off. Rock-bottom rates run higher here than in the villages, but the river terrace is worth one of the two or three nights the valley deserves.
Beyond the river beds, the same 温州市 Wēnzhōu Shì Wenzhou City keeps other bases for the around-the-region days: 市区住宿 Shìqū Zhùsù the river towers of downtown, 雁荡山住宿 Yàndàng Shān Zhùsù the cliff guesthouses of Yandang, 洞头住宿 Dòngtóu Zhùsù the sea-view inns of Dongtou, or 泰顺住宿 Tàishùn Zhùsù the spring resorts of Taishun – four more doors into the same 温州市 Wēnzhōu Shì Wenzhou City. With beds settled, our Wenzhou travel map fills the days.
The Stays
- The splurge tier is the riverside design lodges with deck pools and raft-views: floor-to-ceiling water fronts, bath tubs aimed at the shallows, river-fish dinners – the stay that makes dawn mist an alarm clock.
- The character tier is the converted farmhouses inside Cangpo and Furong villages: timber beams, courtyard wells, home cooking of snail soup and hill greens – the pick for the lantern-lit ancient lanes at night.
- The value tier is the family inns of Yantoudai village by the raft docks: simple rooms, shuttle-door convenience, the raft run out the front door – the practical door into the valley.

flowcloud would say a Nanxi night runs at poling speed: mist on the shallows, a village gate closing on its own old plan, and a river that keeps talking to itself until you are asleep. All checked November 2026.
Where to stay: The valley splits its beds between ancient villages and riverside lodges – deck-pool lodges own the dawn mist, courtyard farmhouses keep Cangpo and Furong alive at night, dockside inns cover the raft-run morning. All checked November 2026.
