Under the Grape Trellis: Courtyard Inns Along the Irrigation Lanes
葡萄架下客茶温,庭院深深岁月长 Pútao jià xià kè chá wēn, tíngyuàn shēnshēn suìyuè cháng – Under the grape trellis the guest’s tea stays warm; deep in the courtyard the days run long
正文:绿洲庭院住宿 Lǜzhōu Tíngyuàn Zhùsù the oasis-court inns sit south of the city grid, where the irrigation lanes water the last belt of farms – courtyard houses behind gates hung with grapevine: shaded verandas, brick paths kept swept, and a trellis overhead so thick that summer noon becomes an afternoon of dappled light. These are the classic court stays of the region: farm families whose vines and vegetable rows pay the bills, with a room or two set aside for travelers who want to sleep inside the green.

The court is the living room. Tea is poured under the trellis at any hour, breakfast appears on a low table – fresh bread, eggs, jam from last year’s fruit – and the day’s schedule is negotiated between the shade and the sun. Rooms are clean and simple, warmed in winter by the kang platform that hosts still stoke, cooled in summer by the same evaporation that keeps the vines happy. The red-cushioned kang corner is the best seat in the house on a cold evening, and the hosts will feed you dinner there if you ask nicely.
The Stays
The trellis-court tier is the classic grape-arbor houses: shade at noon ten degrees below the street, fruit ripening at shoulder height overhead, and tea service that never quite stops.
The kang-room tier is the older farmhouses with the heated platform: thick quilts, red-cushioned corners, and winter dinners eaten in the warmest seat in the house – the season pick.

The veranda tier is the renovated courts with timber decks and lantern light: softer beds, proper bathrooms, and evenings on the deck while the irrigation pumps hum the oasis to sleep.
The location works for travelers chaining the city’s sights with farm country: the museum and squares are a short ride north, while the trellis lanes, orchard sheds and reservoir road all start at the end of the lane. Borrow the house bikes and the distances shrink further – the flat farm roads make everything within ten kilometers feel close. Bring small gifts if you’re staying more than a night – fruit from the market, a box of tea – and accept the second helping of dinner.
