石碌镇 Shílù Zhèn is the county seat of 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn, and it exists because of the mountain at its edge: 石碌铁矿 Shílù Tiěkuàng, the Shilu iron mine, whose ore fed a war and whose railway was finished in 1942 – the mine park above the town took a national designation in December 2017, and the travel column tells that history in full. The town the mine built still sleeps in the mine’s own hotel tradition: a guesthouse lineage whose room types are still named after mine views, the chains that followed the payrolls in, and an economy layer from 63 yuan. The county’s own driving guide tells you to draw a north-west to south-east line through 石碌 and the county’s sights string along it, which is as neat a case for sleeping in the county town as any tourism bureau has written.
The lineage is the best story in the county’s hotel trade. The 海南铁矿迎宾馆 Hǎinán Tiěkuàng Yíngbīnguǎn, the Hainan Iron Mine guesthouse, was established on 1 June 1990; it became the 海南钢铁公司迎宾馆 on 12 July 1994, the 海南矿业联合有限公司迎宾馆 on 11 July 2008 and the 海南矿业股份有限公司迎宾馆 on 12 October 2010 – four names in twenty years, each one a step of the mine’s own restructuring from bureau to listed company. It held a one-star grading until 2011, when it lost the star for not attending the annual review, and its registry entry now reads 注销 zhùxiāo, deregistered – yet a 2025 entry credits one of its branches with a dish on the county’s ten-best list, and the archive and the present do not line up. The house in trade today is the 昌江佳和铁矿迎宾馆 Chāngjiāng Jiāhé Tiěkuàng Yíngbīnguǎn at 11 迎宾路 Yíngbīn Lù, 725 metres from 石碌站 Shílù Zhàn, 1,676 from the county bus station and 1,349 from the county hospital, and whether it succeeds the old guesthouse in any formal sense was never established – this article prints the archive and the present address and claims no succession.
What the present house sells is the mine in the window. Its room types read like a viewing platform: the 望山观景大床房 Wàngshān Guānjǐng Dàchuángfáng and the 清风楼梯大床房 Qīngfēng Lóutī Dàchuángfáng with 矿山风景尽览, the whole mine in view, the 兰香舒睡大床房 Lánxiāng Shūshuì Dàchuángfáng with a mine landscape, and the 山居静谧大套房 Shānjū Jìngmì Dàtàofáng looking down on the county town; behind them a banquet centre and a restaurant whose open kitchen a Ctrip poster praised in October 2025. 同程 Tóngchéng checked on 30 September 2026 listed it from 148 yuan at 4.7, which puts it at the value top of the county’s mid range, and the reviews that repeat are the value, the new smart-room fittings and the quiet of being away from the town’s noise. The four-star label on its page is a platform description, not a government grading.
Around it the county seat runs the full national playbook on three streets – 人民北路 Rénmín Běilù, 昌江大道 Chāngjiāng Dàdào and 环城路 Huánchéng Lù – all within a couple of kilometres of the government, the bus station and 石碌站, and all of the following was checked on 30 September 2026. The chains: 宜尚酒店 Yíshàng Jiǔdiàn, an 东呈 Dōngchéng brand, at 241 人民北路 from 223 yuan rated 4.8, with 美豪丽致酒店 Měiháo Lìzhì Jiǔdiàn at the same address from 348 at 5.0, newly opened with cinema rooms and smart controls; 凯利柏尔花园酒店 Kǎilì Bǎi’ěr Huāyuán Jiǔdiàn at 88 昌江大道 from 241; 维也纳酒店 Wéiyěnà Jiǔdiàn, a 锦江 Jǐnjiāng brand, at 3 昌江大道 from 191; 希尔悦酒店 Xī’ěryuè Jiǔdiàn on 环城西二路 Huánchéng Xī Èr Lù from 192; 日月明智慧酒店 Rìyuèmíng Zhìhuì Jiǔdiàn at 24 昌江大道 from 264; 昌江松之光酒店 Sōngzhī Guāng Jiǔdiàn at 98 昌江大道 with an outdoor pool and 保梅岭 Bǎoměi Lǐng hill-view rooms from 202; and 木棉铂金酒店 Mùmián Bójīn Jiǔdiàn in 兴业世纪广场 Xīngyè Shìjì Guǎngchǎng from 186 with a robot. At the bottom of the same market the economy layer quoted 港湾客栈 Gǎngwān Kèzhàn at 63, 名典宾馆 Míngdiǎn Bīnguǎn at 69, 富宇宾馆 Fùyǔ Bīnguǎn at 88, 嘉润大酒店 Jiārùn Dàjiǔdiàn at 109 and 金日宾馆 Jīnrì Bīnguǎn at 126 – county-town prices for what the material calls prefecture-city mid-range rooms.
What the Rooms Are Like
A room in 石碌 is a business-hotel room, and the range is the width of the town’s economy: at 63 yuan a tiled room over a shop, at 148 the mine-view guesthouse with a banquet centre attached, at 223 to 348 the national chains with smart controls and breakfast buffets. What the town does not have is a resort – the beach and the forest are other articles’ business – so the room is a base, and the base is good: the county’s own guide routes every day trip from here, to 棋子湾 Qízi Wān, the wetland, 霸王岭 Bàwáng Lǐng and 王下乡 Wángxià Xiāng. The quiet streets are the ones behind 昌江大道 Chāngjiāng Dàdào, and the guesthouse’s garden pavilions and lotus pond are the odd pastoral corner in a mining town.
Practicalities
Price. On 30 September 2026 the town quoted 63 at 港湾客栈 Gǎngwān Kèzhàn and 126 at 金日宾馆 Jīnrì Bīnguǎn at the bottom, 148 for the mine-view guesthouse, 186 to 264 for the mid chains and 348 for the new upscale 美豪丽致 Měiháo Lìzhì at the top. Occupancy firms up in the winter sun season and the February kapok weeks; the rest of the year is a walk-in market. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.
Address. The beds sit in 石碌镇 Shílù Zhèn, the county seat of 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn: the 佳和铁矿迎宾馆 at 11 迎宾路 Yíngbīn Lù, the chains on 人民北路 Rénmín Běilù, on 昌江大道 Chāngjiāng Dàdào at numbers 3, 24, 88 and 98, on 环城西二路 and in 兴业世纪广场 Xīngyè Shìjì Guǎngchǎng, and the economy houses in the lanes behind them. The county town is the departure point for everything else – 棋子湾 Qízi Wān about 50 kilometres by the county government’s account and the bay resort’s own release, with an older travel page saying 30 and a 2026 guest review more than 70, so call the drive 50 to 60 and check the day’s road – and 霸王岭 Bàwáng Lǐng about 28, with the 王下乡 Wángxià Xiāng shuttle running 58 kilometres from seven each morning for 20 yuan.
Rooms. Ask for a mine-view room type by name, because the poetic labels are the hotel’s whole idea and not every window earns one. Ask whether the smart controls in the new chains actually run the curtains, which is the county’s favourite small complaint. Ask about breakfast in the guesthouse’s open kitchen. And ask about parking, because the three hotel streets are also the town’s busiest.
Getting there. The county’s only high-speed support point is 棋子湾站 Qízi Wān Zhàn, about 23 kilometres from the county town and half an hour by car on the county’s figures; the town’s own 石碌站 Shílù Zhàn is the mine railway’s station, 725 metres from the guesthouse, and not the stop the fast trains use. By road the G98 motorway’s 太坡 Tàipō exit is about fifteen minutes out, and the county guide puts 石碌 187 kilometres from 海口 Hǎikǒu, 215 from 三亚 Sānyà and 156 from 五指山 Wǔzhǐshān. Buses fan out from the county bus station to the coast, the wetland, the forest and 王下乡.
Where to stay: a mine-view room at 昌江佳和铁矿迎宾馆 Chāngjiāng Jiāhé Tiěkuàng Yíngbīnguǎn at 11 迎宾路 Yíngbīn Lù if you want the county’s best value and its strangest naming scheme, a smart room at 美豪丽致酒店 or a pool afternoon at 昌江松之光酒店 if the chains are the comfort, and a 63-yuan bed at 港湾客栈 Gǎngwān Kèzhàn if the iron mountain is paying your way, all of them in 石碌镇 Shílù Zhèn, 昌江黎族自治县 Chāngjiāng Lí Zú Zìzhì Xiàn, at the centre of the line the county’s guide draws through its own sights.
