双廊 Shuāngláng Shuanglang sells the west-facing window. The town sits on Erhai’s east shore facing 南诏风情岛 Nánzhào Fēngqíng Dǎo – an island attraction charging about 56 yuan plus boat – and because the east shore looks west, the lake view is a sunset view: the sun goes down over the water, not behind the mountain. The October 2026 snapshot: budget lake-view rooms about 150-300, mid-range with terraces about 300-600, high-end lake-view hotels about 800-1,500. The town itself is free and car-free inside, and the honest shape is that you are paying for the floor facing the water, not the room type. The east shore’s other face is the morning: sunrise here rises behind Cangshan, so the lake-facing room gets its light last – the trade for the sunset.
The reason the views exist is the art. 双廊 Shuāngláng became an artists’ village in the 1990s and 2000s – the sculptor 赵青 Zhào Qīng built his lakeside house on 玉几岛 Yùjǐ Dǎo Yuji Island, and 杨丽萍 Yáng Lìpíng the dancer followed with 太阳宫 Tàiyánggōng and 月亮宫 Yuèliànggōng on the same island – and the inns that grew around them inherited the shoreline. The 2016-17 lake cleanup pulled most of them back from the water’s edge, so today’s lake-view rooms sit one row back, which is why the view floor matters more than the distance. 玉几岛 Yùjǐ Dǎo is the peninsula cluster; 大建旁 Dàjiànpáng village behind it is the working town with the food. The comparison with the old town is exact: one sells the wall, the other sells the horizon.
Practical shape: a car is near-essential, though the 古城 Gǔchéng old town runs tourist shuttles (about 25 yuan) and 下关 Xiàguān buses reach the town (about 15 yuan, rolling departures roughly 7:00-16:30). The drive along 环海东路 Huánhǎi Dōng Lù is about an hour from the old town, and the stops north and south – 挖色 Wāsè, 小普陀 Xiǎopǔtuó, 鹿卧山 Lùwòshān, 文笔村 Wénbǐcūn – are the drive’s point. Inside the town, cars park at the north or south lots (about 10 yuan an hour, 40 cap) and everything is walking. Book the sunset side and the higher floor; expect wind off the lake in winter and spring; and give the town two nights, because half a day is all transfer. The 双廊码头 Shuāngláng Mǎtóu runs boats out to the island, and the crossing is part of the price of the view – some rooms quote the island in the window and the boat in the fine print. Check the view before paying the view price – some “lake-view” rooms face the courtyard.
Where to stay: the lakefront clusters of 双廊镇 Shuāngláng Zhèn – 玉几岛 Yùjǐ Dǎo for the artist history, 大建旁 Dàjiànpáng for the town – facing 南诏风情岛 Nánzhào Fēngqíng Dǎo; give a driver “双廊镇 Shuāngláng Zhèn” plus the inn name, since the town is car-free inside. All checked October 2026.

Budget (≈150–300 yuan): 寂光海墅 Jìguāng Hǎishù Jiguang lake house (大建旁 Dàjiànpáng village, 二组 Èr Zǔ 249, from about 181 yuan, 4.9), 海音·海景花园美宿 Hǎiyīn Haiyin garden inn (大建旁 Dàjiànpáng on 环海东路 Huánhǎi Dōng Lù, from about 227 yuan, 4.8), and 悦来悦慢海景美宿 Yuèlái Yuèmàn Yuelai Yueman (大建旁渔业组 Yúyè Zǔ 214, from about 273 yuan, 4.8) are the lake-view floor – terrace rooms and full-lake 海景房 hǎijǐng fáng windows in the 150-300 band, in the working town behind 玉几岛 Yùjǐ Dǎo. The honest shape is that the 110-166 floor – 千秀客栈 Qiānxiù Kèzhàn by the old stage (about 122 yuan, 4.9, 382 reviews), 隐廊美景美宿 Yǐnláng (about 110 yuan, 4.9, 196 reviews), 安与喜民宿 Ān Yǔ Xǐ (about 166 yuan, 4.8, 152 reviews) – is the courtyard side, and the water costs the extra.
Upscale (≈800–1,500 yuan): 大理雲影春晓·有缘等风来海景民宿 Yúnyǐng Chǔnxiǎo Yunying Chunxiao (双廊村 Shuāngláng Cūn 九组 Jiǔ Zǔ 295, from about 828 yuan, 4.9) is the high-end tier – full-lake rooms and terrace suites facing 南诏风情岛 Nánzhào Fēngqíng Dǎo, one row back from the water since the 2016-17 cleanup. The honest shape is that you pay for the floor facing the water, not the room type, and the sunset over Erhai is the amenity the window sells.
