Tangxia Sanzheng, the Town's First Hot-Spring Hotel

Tangxia Sanzheng, the Town’s First Hot-Spring Hotel

The hot-spring bed is in 塘厦镇 Tángxià Zhèn, Tangxia, the southeastern town nearest Shenzhen’s northern door, at 10 Yingbin Avenue where the 龙林高速 Lónglín expressway entrance meets the town’s cultural-centre district – and the water is the story. The 三正半山温泉酒店 Sānzhèng Bànshān Wēnquán Jiǔdiàn, the Sanzheng Banshan Hot Spring Hotel of the Sanzheng group, spreads over the hillside of the 大钟岭水库 Dàzhōnglǐng Shuǐkù reservoir, and it is the house that ended Dongguan’s run as a major city with no hot springs. The geography is the arithmetic: the metro ends one town short, the high-speed rail starts here – the Ganzhou-Shenzhen line’s 东莞南站 Dōngguān Nán Zhàn is this bed’s station – and the hills that made Tangxia the green edge of the city turned out to hold the water the city never had. It is also, in the arithmetic this batch keeps, the bed farthest from the metro and nearest to the newest rails – a combination that did not exist anywhere in Dongguan before December 2021, and the hillside house that opened here in 2005 has been selling it, in its reinvented way, since 2018.

The house has two published selves, and the counts are a timeline, not a quarrel. It opened on 23 June 2005 with 502 rooms and suites in a six-floor main building; from late 2017 it went through an upgrade whose first phase finished in December 2018 – total site about 210,000 square metres, built area past 100,000, green cover 80 per cent, and 558 rooms and suites by the Southern Network and Dongguan Time reports, the official-grade figures this article prints, with the 2005 count kept beside them. What the 2018 works added is the reason to come: the old 30,000-plus-square-metre outdoor pool zone was rebuilt as a European royal-garden hot-spring district at the centre of the scheme.

The “first” here is official and prints as it stands. At the December 2018 opening, 文飞 Wén Fēi, executive vice-president of the Guangdong provincial hot-spring association, said the house had “rewritten the history of Dongguan having no hot springs” – Dongguan Time and Southern Network both carry it – so this article can call it the city’s first hot-spring hotel without a footnote. The wet heart is the 皇家温泉花园 Huángjiā Wēnquán Huāyuán, the Royal Hot Spring Garden, with its 38 soaking pools laid out in the European-garden style. What no source publishes is a spring-quality report, so the word here is simply “hot spring” – no “true spring”, no mineral assay, no adjectives the desk did not print.

The rail frame is the newest in the city and the reason the arithmetic works. 东莞南站 Dōngguān Nán Zhàn, Dongguan South, opened on 10 December 2021 with the Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed line – four platforms, eight lines, a 28,400-square-metre station house at the Lin village community of Tangxia, the largest high-speed rail station in Dongguan and the second after Humen’s 2011 pioneer, the order kept straight here. The city government’s own figures put Tangxia fifteen minutes from Shenzhen North at a from-15-yuan second-class fare, and Nanchang about three and a half hours; the station sits about ten minutes by taxi from the hotel – an estimate; navigate. One booking trap: the Sanzheng Banshan name also runs houses at 桥头 Qiáotóu and 樟木头 Zhāngmùtóu; this is the Tangxia house on Yingbin Avenue, and the booking page should say so before the deposit does.

What the Rooms Are Like

The platform snapshot runs a hundred-plus options, and they sort into four families. The waterside line holds garden-view, lake-view and pondside 亲水 qīnshuǐ rooms in the main-building and half-hill zones; the hot-spring line holds 温泉 wēnquán king and twin rooms with private soaking pools and mugwort-and-ginger bath packs, a two-bedroom hot-spring suite and children’s theme hot-spring rooms; the villa line runs Mediterranean- and Southeast-Asian-styled houses up to a six-bedroom six-hall villa for whole-clan bookings; and the family floor adds forest, space-robot and undersea theme rooms beside a sleep-wellness series. The real question is where the soak happens: an in-room pool at midnight or the 38-pool garden at noon – the rate card prices the difference, and families with small children mostly buy the room pool. The same 2018 works moved the main building to geothermal heating, turned part of the room stock into true hot-spring rooms with their own pools – children’s themes among them – and put private-pool villas on the rate card.

Practicalities

Price. On 1 October 2026 the snapshot read: from 1,533 yuan on Ctrip (4.7 across 6,984 reviews, No. 11 on the platform’s Guangdong family-resort ranking) and 2,370 on Tongcheng (4.8), phone 87299333 on the Ctrip listing, with the ticket desk running on its own snapshot: 138 yuan an adult, 69 for children between 1.2 and 1.4 metres, 203 for one adult and one child, 345 for two adults and one, the water open 10:00 to 23:00 on the same 1 October 2026 read. School-holiday weeks fill the villas first. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.

Address. 东莞市塘厦镇迎宾大道 10 号 – 10 Yingbin Avenue, Tangxia town, at the Longlin expressway entrance on the reservoir side of the town’s cultural-centre district. The name check matters: 桥头 Qiáotóu and 樟木头 Zhāngmùtóu run their own Sanzheng Banshan houses at 湖滨路 2 号 and 石新路 22 号, and the booking platforms will sell you either.

Rooms. Ask whether the soaking pool is in your room or in the garden, because the two are different nights. Ask which zone – main building or half-hill – and whether the geothermal heating reaches it in the cool months. Villa bookers should count bedrooms against the group, not against the stars, and confirm which theme room the children are actually getting.

Getting there. The Ganzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail to 东莞南站 Dōngguān Nán Zhàn, Dongguan South, then a taxi of about ten minutes – navigate; the same line runs Tangxia to Shenzhen North in as fast as seventeen minutes from 15 yuan, the city government’s figure, which is why Shenzhen couples book this as a weeknight. Self-drive from Guangzhou or Shenzhen runs about one to one-and-a-half hours, an estimate, with the Longlin expressway exit about a minute from the gate by the platform figure. No metro serves Tangxia – Line 2 ends at Humen – so plan on rail plus car.

A private villa courtyard at night among dense trees, a square hot-spring pool steaming on a timber deck, warm garden lamps lighting a stone path between ferns, the villa’s sliding glass wall glowing softly behind, no people in view

Where to stay: a hot-spring room with the in-room pool if the midnight soak is the whole point, a half-hill villa if the group needs bedrooms more than stars, and a children’s theme hot-spring room if the small bathers run the schedule – all at 10 Yingbin Avenue, 塘厦镇 Tángxià Zhèn, 东莞市, the hillside that gave the city its first spring and its fastest train in the same decade.

flowcloud would say that a city which made everything fast needed one hillside where the point is a thirty-eight-pool argument for sitting still, and that the correct way to sleep here is villa-side with the pool steaming and the seventeen-minute train home memorised, because Shenzhen will still be there in the morning and so will the mountain.
