The reason to stay here rather than in 和顺 Héshùn is the bus network: the city station has departures for 瑞丽 Ruìlì, 芒市 Mángshì and 保山 Bǎoshān itself, and the buses to 和顺古镇 Héshùn Gǔzhèn, 热海 Rèhǎi and the 火山公园 Huǒshān Gōngyuán all pass the south gate, so a day of each sight is easy without a taxi. The food near the hotels is honest 腾冲 Téngchōng city cooking – 稀豆粉 Xī Dòufěn breakfast stalls, 大救驾 Dà Jiùjià snack houses, 火瓢牛肉 Huǒpiáo Niúròu copper-pot houses – at half the old-town prices.
