Every other bed in this district faces buildings. The fifth faces trees. 铁山坪 Tiěshānpíng, Tieshanping, is the forested ridge of the Tongluo Mountains on the eastern edge of 江北区 Jiāngběi Qū, Jiangbei District and of Chongqing’s built-up city – about 14.93 square kilometres of pine woods with forest cover above 90 per cent – and it holds the one lodging belt in the district where the destination is the room itself. Everything else in this series is a base camp; the mountain is the trip. Fifteen years ago the honest answer to why anyone climbed here was a plate of 花椒鸡 huājiāo jī, Sichuan-peppercorn chicken; the forest has since been given trails, lookouts and rooms to match the kitchen.

The ridge’s modern story is short and documentable. Before 2008, by the city’s own later telling, there was little up the mountain beyond the masson pine woods and the peppercorn-chicken tables; in 2009 the district committed to developing the park with private money rather than public funds and built out its infrastructure – the mountain avenue, a stairway cloud ladder and a gorge-side walkway among nine projects; in April 2014 the forest park was listed a national 4A scenic area; in 2016 it was named a municipal tourism resort and a national forest oxygen bar; and in 2020 a dedicated ecological-zone management centre was set up. Dozens of kilometres of fitness trails now thread the ridge, and the Yangtze passes below at 铜锣峡 Tóngluó Xiá, Tongluo Gorge, where the river narrows between the hills. What the ridge does not offer is a city panorama: the trees are the view, and a few high places glimpse the gorge water, nothing more.
The lodging runs in three registers, none of them urban. Mountain villas and farmstays – several dozen of them by the count taken when the park won its 4A listing – sell simple rooms over full tables, most with their own car park and their own kitchen, and the kitchen’s signature is the peppercorn chicken eaten downstairs. Small resort hotels add proper hotel rooms, a few with hot springs and pools. And conference and training centres fill the midweek with groups, which is why the weekend belongs to families and the weekday to name badges. Apartment-style minsu, the stock of every other piece in this batch, are rare here; the mountain has its own vocabulary and keeps it.

The pricing logic is drive time traded for space. In an October 2026 platform snapshot the mountain ran from about 160 to 450 yuan a night: villas and economy resort rooms about 160 to 290, forest resort hotels about 300 to 450 – below the city’s mid-band for a room whose front yard is a forest. The calendar is seasonal rather than daily: spring and autumn weekends run 30 to 50 per cent higher, forest-marathon and lawn-concert dates book out first, summer cool-air weekends need reserving ahead, and some villas trim their opening through the winter midweek. Weekday conference demand keeps the middle of the week from going empty, and the mountain’s own kitchen – the same one that made it famous – keeps the drive honest.
The mountain suits two guests precisely: the family that has already done the city’s stairs and wants one night where the children run on grass, and the second-visit traveller adding a night of air to a city stay – the drive from Guanyinqiao runs 40 to 60 minutes on winding roads. It does not suit the carless first-timer on a clock: public transport means Metro Line 4 towards 唐家沱 Tángjiātuó, Tangjiatuo, then the 813 bus up the mountain, about an hour all told; a taxi up is easy, and the sensible return is to ask the house to call a car down. Book dinner as well as the room – the alternative is the drive back down in the dark.
Practicalities
Price. In an October 2026 platform snapshot the ridge ran from about 160 to 450 yuan a night: mountain villas and economy resort rooms about 160 to 290, forest resort hotels about 300 to 450. Spring and autumn weekends, race dates and festival dates run 30 to 50 per cent higher; summer weekends need early booking and some villas scale back in winter. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.
Address. 重庆市江北区铁山坪街道 Zhōngqìng Shì Jiāngběi Qū Tiěshānpíng Jiēdào, Tieshanping Subdistrict, Jiangbei District, Chongqing – the villas and hotels are scattered along the ridge roads inside the forest park, not clustered, so match each booking to its map position on the mountain. Most properties carry their own car park and their own restaurant.
Rooms. Three registers: villa and farmstay rooms above the family kitchen tables, resort-hotel standards with a few hot-spring and pool options, and conference-centre blocks that empty at weekends. Simple 20-to-40-square-metre rooms dominate, and apartment-style minsu are rare. Exact room counts are not confirmed in government or operator sources, so any precise figure is the platform’s own.
Getting there. By public transport, Metro Line 4 towards 唐家沱 Tángjiātuó, Tangjiatuo, then the 813 bus up the mountain, about an hour in total. By car, 40 to 60 minutes from the Guanyinqiao area on winding mountain roads; a taxi up is easy and the return is best arranged through the property. Trains run roughly 06:30 to 23:00 with announced holiday extensions.

The contrast with the city pieces of this batch is the point. Guanyinqiao prices walking minutes, the riverfront prices a window, the financial district prices an angle; Tieshanping prices quiet – and it is the only address in the district where the amenity list starts with trees, the nearest tower is a distant ridge, and the loudest thing after dark is the kitchen downstairs.
flowcloud would say that this is the only bed in the district whose booking confirmation should list the weather as a dependency, and that the correct way to sleep on Tieshanping is downstairs from your own peppercorn chicken with the windows open, because the city spent a decade planting this forest and the forest has finally started paying it back in room-nights.
Where to stay: a villa room from about 160 to 290 yuan if the kitchen table and the trails are the point, a forest resort hotel from about 300 to 450 if the pool or the spring is the point, and a midweek conference-centre rate if the price is the point – because at 铁山坪 Tiěshānpíng, Tieshanping, the room is not near the destination, the room is the destination.
