乌苏 Wūsū Wusu city anchors the prefecture’s southern end – the brewery town on the corridor between Urumqi and the Ili fork, where the hotels serve three tribes: beer-festival revellers, truck drivers off the expressway, and travellers staging the drive west (worth confirming the details for the festival week, when the beer tents run late and the town’s rooms book out around the stage). The city is modern and flat, with a big central square, grill streets that run past midnight, and parking everywhere.
Two bases split the town. The first is the square-and-park quarter, where the newer hotels sit within a walk of the beer streets and the morning market. The second is the expressway-exit compounds, where chain hotels keep the drivers’ schedule – late arrivals, early starts, breakfast bags at the desk. What the booking buys is position on the corridor: wake in Wusu and both the Sayram lake road and the Anjihai canyon are morning drives, not expeditions.
