鱼鳞洲 Yúlínzhōu, Yulinzhou, is the reef-and-lighthouse cape on the western shore of 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, in 东方市 Dōngfāng Shì, Dongfang City, and it holds a double claim: it is the westernmost point of Hainan’s land, the place where the island runs out of road, and it was counted among the 清代琼崖八景 Qīngdài Qióngyá Bājǐng, the eight scenic views of Qing-era Qiongya. The scenic area is free and open all day, with a white lighthouse, a windmill cluster and a rocky shore, and the observation deck on 鱼鳞角灯塔 Yúlíngjiǎo Dēngtǎ, the Yulinjiao lighthouse, is ticketed separately at about 29.9 yuan; the platforms put the best light between 16:30 and 19:00. The beds that serve the cape run in three layers – one hot-spring hotel, a wall of sea-view apartments and the tidal-flat guesthouses at the fishing harbour – from about 110 yuan to the top of the city’s ladder, and this is the only band in Dongfang where the sun goes down straight into the water.

The headline house and the one that needs the most care is 建都鱼鳞洲豪生 Club 酒店, the Howard Johnson by Wyndham Club Jiandu Yulinzhou Dongfang, at number 25 疏港北路 Shūgǎng Běilù, Shugang North Road. It opened in 2025 and is, on the city government’s own account of 11 August 2025, the only hot-spring-themed hotel in Dongfang at present: an investment of 150 million yuan, a building of more than 18,000 square metres, run by a local hotel-management company together with the American group Wyndham, with seventeen hot-spring pools above and below ground, a swimming pool and a children’s area, and rooms that look out at Yulinzhou and its big windmills. The same government report notes that the house employs more than seventy people and is expected to turn over about twenty million yuan a year, and the suite the platforms list is a 95-square-metre Howard Johnson Club Grand Suite with a sea view; the platforms rate the house between three and four stars, which this article records as a spread rather than a fact. One line travels with the name and must be said plainly. This is Howard Johnson by Wyndham, a different brand and a different property from the 温德姆至尊豪廷 Wyndham Grand tower over in neighbouring Ledong, which is shut for a full renovation, and the Dongfang house is open and trading. The name is also written two ways in the sources, with 建都 Jiàndū and 锦都 Jǐndū both appearing, and the government spelling is kept here. The hotel’s own copy about trace elements in the spring water is quoted as the house’s claim and not as a health effect.
The apartments do the volume, and they are why this coast is affordable. Along 滨海北路 Bīnhǎi Běilù, Binhai North Road, and the 海东方 Hǎidōngfāng compound, the October 2026 snapshot reads as a ladder: 东方一线海景度假公寓 at number 18 Binhai North Road in phase one, at 2.5 from 111 yuan, with a long list of sea-view categories from a side-sea-view king to a 260-degree double-balcony suite; 东方候鸟帮办海景旅租 at the phase-one shopfront row, the best-reviewed of the group at 4.8 from 115 yuan; 夕霞小住民宿 in building 12 of the compound at 3.4 from 115, with an outdoor pool, a public beach, duplex family rooms and garden-view cottages; 环岛佳·东方海景度假美宿 at shop 16 in the same compound at 4.0 from 131, pet-friendly with family rooms; and 东方云栖民宿 at number 198 on the coast road, the most expensive of the flats at 3.6 from 642, whose modern three-bedroom two-living-room sea-view suites are the top of the apartment trade. The scores are plain and the price is the point: this is a stretch where a family can take a flat with a kitchen a few hundred metres from the water for a fifth of what the hotel charges.
At the other end of the band the beds belong to the fishing village. 东方留夏海民宿(环岛旅游公路赶海圣地店), the Liuxiahai guesthouse at the island scenic highway’s tidal-flat branch, opened in 2025 at number 4 和平西路 Hépíng Xīlù, Heping West Road, in the 港门社区 Gǎngmén Shèqū, Gangmen community of Basuo, and it is built as the sea band’s opposite: a detached courtyard open to the water on three sides, with the 墩头港 Dūntóu Gǎng, Duntou harbour, the tidal-flat grounds and the old Duntou fort about 300 metres away, Yulinzhou 8.5 kilometres off and Dongfang station about 10.2 kilometres; it reads 4.8 across 55 to 71 Ctrip reviews, 9.7 out of 10 across 61 on Trip, from TWD513, and rents garden-view kings and twins, a sea-view family room with an observation platform and sea-view twins. 东方鱼鳞洲赵阳民宿, a city guesthouse on 解放西路 Jiěfàng Xīlù, sits 669 metres from the cape at 4.1, and 环岛佳·东方西海岸灯塔海景美宿(鱼鳞洲风景区店)opened in 2024 at the junction of Jiefang West Road and the island scenic highway, reading 3.7 across 129 reviews. Between them they are the honest version of this coast: a courtyard, a bucket for the tidal flats and a walk to the water rather than a lobby.

Two things about this shore are easy to get wrong. The first is the port. 八所港 Bāsuǒ Gǎng, Basuo Port, is the deep-water harbour at the city’s edge, a national first-class open port and a Hainan free-trade-port second-line port run as one port in three zones, and the 鱼鳞洲港区 Yúlínzhōu Gǎngqū, the Yulinzhou port zone, is the one by this cape; its planning document gives it a future in clean cargo, tourist passenger traffic and roll-on roll-off, with a 2025 planning target of 150,000 tourist passengers. What it does not have today is any outward passenger ferry or roll-on service, so no one sails here from across the gulf, and the freight background – 17.39 million tonnes of cargo through the port in 2025, up 13.6 per cent on the year – is exactly the industrial counterweight that makes the sunset look deliberate. The second is the light itself. This is a west-facing shore, so the sun drops into the Beibu Gulf rather than behind a hill, and the windmills, the lighthouse and the red cranes of the port line up in the same frame. The trade’s marketing words are left out of this article; what holds is simpler and better, a cape that is free to walk, a lighthouse that costs about thirty yuan to climb, and a bed from a hundred and eleven.
What the Rooms Are Like
Choose by trade. The Howard Johnson is the only full-service house on the band, a hot-spring resort for a couple or a family who want pools and a restaurant under one roof, and it is also the only band in Dongfang with a spring at all. The 海东方 apartments are self-catering flats where the kitchen, the washing machine and the balcony matter more than the front desk, and the price tracks the aspect rather than a brand. The harbour guesthouses are small, plain and closest to the tidal flats, which is the point for anyone who came to rake shellfish at low water. Room counts are published for almost none of the apartments, so ask for the block and the floor – an upper floor facing the gulf is what the money buys here, and a courtyard view is not the sea. Confirm whether a flat’s pool and beach access are shared, because some compounds have both and some have neither.
Practicalities
Price. On 2 October 2026 the snapshot read: the Howard Johnson Club at the top of the band with no stable published rate while the platforms sort its stars, the 海东方 apartments from 111 yuan at 东方一线海景度假公寓 up through 夕霞小住 115, 东方候鸟帮办 115, 环岛佳 131 and 东方云栖 642, the Liuxiahai harbour guesthouse from TWD513 (4.8 across 55 to 71), and 东方鱼鳞洲赵阳民宿 at 4.1. The band is roughly 110 to 650 yuan, with most flats in the 110-to-190 strip. Every figure is a snapshot that floats.
Address. The band addresses itself by the cape and the compound: the Howard Johnson at number 25 疏港北路 Shūgǎng Běilù, Shugang North Road, the 海东方 apartments along 滨海北路 Bīnhǎi Běilù, Binhai North Road, at numbers 18 and 198 and the surrounding shopfronts, and the Liuxiahai guesthouse at number 4 和平西路 Hépíng Xīlù, Heping West Road, in the 港门社区 Gǎngmén Shèqū, Gangmen community. Pin by the compound name and the coast road, and confirm the station-to-house distance on navigation.
Rooms. Buy the aspect, not the brand: a sea-view suite at the Howard Johnson if the spring and the service matter, an upper-floor flat with a balcony in the 海东方 blocks if self-catering does, and a plain harbour room if the tidal flats do. Ask whether the flat’s pool and beach are shared, confirm the floor and the view, and check breakfast, which most of the flats leave out of the rate.
Getting there. The two high-speed stops of the city are both on the coast, and this band uses the one in the city: 东方站 Dōngfāng Zhàn, Dongfang station, in 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, about fifteen minutes by car from the Howard Johnson and about 10.2 kilometres from the Liuxiahai guesthouse. The second is 金月湾站 Jīnyuèwān Zhàn, Jinyuewan station, in 板桥镇 Bǎnqiáo Zhèn, Banqiao Town, on the southern coast; there is no Banqiao station on the line, and 感城站 Gǎnchéng Zhàn, Gancheng station, built in 1958, is a conventional-line halt with no high-speed service. From Dongfang station the run to 三亚 Sānyà is about an hour and ten minutes for 47 to 61 yuan and to 海口东 Hǎikǒu Dōng about an hour and twenty-four minutes for 84 to 92, both snapshots. By road the cape is off the G98 west ring and the G225, and by air the nearest trunk airport is 三亚凤凰国际机场, Phoenix airport, which the house’s own copy puts about two hours off by the coast road, so navigate rather than trust a single number. All distances and times are snapshots to check against navigation.

Where to stay: a spring suite at the Howard Johnson by Wyndham if the hot water and the only full-service house on the cape are the point, an upper-floor flat in the 海东方 compound if a kitchen and 110 to 190 yuan are, and a courtyard room at the Duntou harbour guesthouses if the tidal flats are – all on the western shore of 八所镇 Bāsuǒ Zhèn, Basuo Town, by 鱼鳞洲 Yúlínzhōu, Yulinzhou.
flowcloud would say that a cape which has been photographed for two centuries does not need a hotel to make it worth the trip, and that the correct way to sleep here is in a room facing the water with the window open, because the sun at Hainan’s westernmost point goes into the sea rather than behind it and no lobby can improve on that.
