Lihua Yuan (李花源, “Plum-Blossom Source”) is a 3A-rated (October 2020) free blossom area at Yuejiang Village, Wudong town, in Dianjiang’s hill country — a valley-side planting of plum that turns white in early spring and gives the county its blossom season’s opening act. It is the smallest and quietest of the county’s flower destinations, and the one that behaves most like a village: no gates, no ticketing, the blossom simply arrives and the road up fills with cars for a fortnight.
The plums here are fruit trees first and scenery second — the same trees that carry the county’s spring white are the ones that fruit in summer, and the valley’s orchards are working land. That is the charm of the place: the blossom is not planted for visitors, it is the orchard’s April autobiography, and visitors are tolerated guests.
The bloom is early — often the county’s first mass flowering, before the Kaizhi peonies — and it is short; a week of good weather and the petals are down. The valley road is narrow and the pull-offs are farm gates; park where there is room and walk in. There is nothing to buy at the top except, in season, the orchard’s own fruit.
