Mingyue Mountain (明月山, Míngyuèshān) is the unrated, free ridge west of Dianjiang — the county’s quiet counterweight to the ticketed flower parks. The classic route is the Fengmenpu ancient road (峰门铺古道) up to the western summit, where on a clear morning the cloud sea below opens over the junction of three counties, and in spring the slopes carry the county’s other blossom trade: pear and plum. There are no gates, no tickets, and no cable cars; the mountain’s infrastructure is the road and, halfway up, the farmhouse restaurants.
The ridge sits where the counties’ drainage divides, and the mornings after rain trap the valley fog against the slope while the summit stands above it. The viewing window is short — the cloud sea usually breaks up by mid-morning — which is why the serious walkers start before dawn and the rest of us are told to set an alarm.
The half-mountain farmhouses are the mountain’s actual amenity: bamboo-tube rice (竹筒饭) cooked over wood, and in spring the pear-and-plum blossom walks that the county’s families do in a day. The ancient road is steep in stretches and shaded throughout; take water and take a stick. Locals warn that the summit wind is not the valley wind — a layer is not optional.
