Nantian Lake (南天湖, Nántiān Hú) is a 4A-rated (December 2018) high-mountain lake destination in Sanhe Street on the county’s southern plateau — a reservoir set in rolling highland at roughly 1,400 metres, developed into Chongqing’s winter answer to the basin’s snowlessness: a ski field, temple-fair performance seasons, and summer’s cool-lake retreat on the same grass. It is the county’s modern resort layer, and the reason Fengdu appears on Chongqing’s winter maps at all.
The lake’s year splits cleanly. Winter is the ski field and the snow season, when the plateau’s cold is the product and the lake is the frame; summer is the reverse — the grass, the cool air, and the lake’s evening light, with the ski lifts idle. The temple-fair performance season sits between them, in the festival calendar, and brings its own crowd.
The plateau is cold in a way the lake photographs do not convey — winter visitors come for the snow and stay for the wind, and locals will tell you to dress for the mountain rather than the forecast. The ski field’s operation is weather-dependent; check the opening status before the drive up. Summer evenings on the grass are the local pattern, and the lake loop is the walk.
