Xuebaoshan Forest Park

雪宝山 (Xuěbǎo Shān) rises along the Qinba mountain ridge (秦巴山脊) in the far north of Kaizhou, Chongqing, a high, wild stretch of national forest park. Locals call it the district’s “green lung” (绿肺), and its main summit tops out at 2,626 metres of open alpine meadow.

The slopes hold millennium-old cliff cypresses (崖柏), a rare conifer that clings to the high rock and outlives dynasties. Below the ridge, autumn paints the valleys red, and the cooler months draw hikers who want the mountains to themselves.

Camp on the meadow and you wake above a sea of clouds (云海) as the sun clears the ridge — the park’s signature sight. It is raw, high country: bring layers, as the temperature drops sharply once the light goes.

What the Locals Know

The forest park is free to enter but remote — the drive up from Kaizhou’s urban area is long and winding, so most visitors overnight rather than day-trip. The sunrise meadow campsite fills on clear autumn weekends; book ahead, and note the mountain closes some roads after heavy snow. All checked October 2026.

flowcloud would say that if Chongqing ever needed proof it has wild peaks beyond the city, Xuebaoshan’s cloud sea at dawn is it. All checked October 2026.

Where to find it: Far northern Kaizhou along the Qinba ridge, reached by a long mountain drive from the district town; the meadow campsite and cypress groves are signed from the park entrance road. All checked October 2026.
