文峰塔 (Wénfēng Tǎ), the Wenfeng Pagoda, rises from the rim of Liángpíng’s basin as a slender Qing-dynasty brick tower, built in the old belief that a tall structure on the edge of the flatlands would steady the 文运 wényùn — the fortune of learning and letters — of the town below. It stands alone on the higher ground, visible for miles across the plain, a vertical punctuation mark against a horizontal world.

The tower is built of brick laid in the dense, grey courses typical of its age, its body tapering in stages toward a finial that catches the low sun. A narrow internal stair winds up through the storeys, and the climb is the point of the visit: each opening gives a slightly different frame of the same wide country, until at the top the whole basin lies open. The steps are steep and the landings small, but the reward is a 360-degree view that no temple courtyard in the district can match.

From the top the geography of Liángpíng resolves into its simplest form. The plain spreads in every direction, ringed by the 竹海 zhúhǎi bamboo sea on the hills and stitched with the grids of field and fish pond below. The town itself sits small and tidy at the foot of the tower, its tiled roofs and modern blocks compressed into a single readable map. On a clear day you can trace the road you came in on all the way to the basin’s far wall, and watch the light move across the paddies hour by hour.

Wenfeng is a quiet, almost private monument — no incense, no crowd, just the wind at the top and the slow creak of the structure under it. Locals treat it as a landmark first and a relic second, a meeting point and a lookout rolled into one. Climb it in the late afternoon and you get the best of both: the heat leaving the plain, the bamboo turning a deeper green, and the town switching on its lights beneath your feet. It is the simplest way to grasp, in a single turn of the head, how Liangping actually sits in its land.
