Evening on the Old Canal: Huai’an’s Li Canal Corridor
一水穿城灯十里,清江浦上月如钩 Yī shuǐ chuān chéng dēng shílǐ, Qīngjiāngpǔ shàng yuè rú gōu – One river threads the city through ten li of lamps; over Qingjiangpu the moon hangs like a hook
正文:里运河文化长廊 Lǐ Yùnhé Wénhuà Chángláng the Li Canal Cultural Corridor is Huai’an’s evening stage – a landscaped reach of the old Grand Canal through Qingjiangpu district, where the Qingjiangpu Tower, the Guoshi Pagoda, stone wharves and modern embankments line up along the water. The canal here is the historic mainline that made Huai’an a shipping capital; today it carries tour boats instead of grain fleets, and the banks are built for strolling.

The signature view is the dusk panorama: pagoda and tower lit against the evening sky, the water holding both, and the city’s lights starting along the far bank. Photographers gather at the bridge landings; boats leave from the wharves as the lamps come on.
The boat cruise is the way to see it. Vessels run the lit reach under the bridges, past the tower and the pagoda, with commentary on the canal’s grain-trade years; the whole loop takes about forty minutes and the front-deck seats go first.
By day the corridor reads as a linear park: boardwalks, sculpture stops, tea houses in converted warehouses, and the wharf museum explaining the transport system that once moved the empire’s rice through this river. It pairs naturally with the old city sights in the morning and the boat after dark.

Practicalities
Beyond the water, the same 淮安市 Huái’ān Shì Huai’an City keeps more places worth the detour: 周恩来故居 Zhōu Ēnlái Gùjū the Former Residence, 周恩来纪念馆 Zhōu Ēnlái Jìniànguǎn the Memorial Hall, 河下古镇 Héxià Gǔzhèn Hexia Old Town, or 淮安府署 Huái’ān Fǔshǔ the Government Office – four more doors into the same 淮安市 Huái’ān Shì Huai’an City. After the boat lands, our Huai’an food map fills the day.

Words and Names
flowcloud would say the canal is Huai’an showing its old job title: one pagoda, one tower, and a river that once fed the capital and now feeds the evening. All checked November 2026.
Getting there: The corridor runs along the canal in Qingjiangpu district – the main wharf near Qingjiangpu Tower is the cruise departure point, buses and taxis cover it from downtown, and the bank walk is level and lamp-lit the whole way. Night boats run on schedule through the evening with tickets at the dock; day visits pair with the wharf museum, and the full lit panorama is worth the after-dinner slot. All checked November 2026.
