Dafengbao (大风堡, Dàfēngbǎo) is a 4A-rated (December 2011) mountain destination beside the Huangshui National Forest Park (黄水国家森林公园) at Huangshui town — 55 yuan in both seasons — whose products are the 原始森林 (primeval forest) and the view over it: a 悬空玻璃廊桥 (suspended glass corridor) projecting from the ridge, and the 云海 (cloud sea) that forms below when the valley’s inversion sits right. It is the county’s forest-and-height product, the high cool address of the Huangshui plateau.
The area’s case is the pair: the forest below is old-growth, the kind of woodland the region keeps as a national park, and the height above it is where the view happens. The glass corridor is the modern furniture — a suspended walkway over the drop, built for the same reason as every viewing platform: to put the visitor above the canopy with the cloud sea in between. When the inversion is in, the forest reads as islands in a sea; when it is out, the ridges stack to the horizon instead.
The cloud sea is a morning product and a weather-dependent one — check the forecast, and if the inversion is not in, go for the forest walk instead. The plateau is cool in every month; the summer is the product and the crowds come with it. The 55-yuan flat pricing in both seasons tells you the site’s register: the forest is not a seasonal trade.
