Jin Yong’s Island: Taohua
金庸笔下桃花岛,海上仙山射雕城 Jīnyōng bǐ xià Táohuā Dǎo, hǎishàng xiānshān Shèdiāo Chéng – Taohua Island from Jin Yong’s pen; an immortal isle at sea with a City of the Legend of the Condor Heroes
桃花岛 Táohuā Dǎo Taohua Island rides its fictional fame lightly – the island Jin Yong chose as the home of his hermit master Huang Yaoshi in the 射雕 Shèdiāo Condor Heroes novels, and the island that actually grows the peach orchards to match the name. The real island, a ferry ride from Zhoushan’s 沈家门 Shěnjiāmén Shenjiamen port, keeps three pulls in balance: the 射雕影视城 Shèdiāo Yǐngshì Chéng film-set town built for the TV adaptations, the peach valleys that bloom pink in April, and 安期峰 Ānqī Fēng Anqi Peak, the blade-like summit that is the highest point in the whole archipelago.

The film city is the island’s stagecraft: a walled town of Song-dynasty streets, armories and courtyards built for the cameras and now populated by costumed extras on weekends, sword-play shows and the odd wedding party borrowing the backdrop. It is unapologetically a set – and a fun one – with the genuine harbor and green hills visible over the walls to remind everyone which island is real.

The valleys answer the fiction. Peach orchards line the roads from the ferry quay, the blossom weeks of late March and April turn the island’s postcard pink, and the small 桃花峪 Táohuā Yù Taohua Gorge walk threads streams and sea cliffs below the peak. The island’s coves – 塔湾 Tǎwān Tawan’s sandy hook among them – keep the fishing-boat rhythm that predates any novel.
Anqi Peak closes the day: a climb of a couple of hours through subtropical forest to a summit block that looks down the whole Zhoushan chain, islands strung to the horizon like a dropped necklace. Down at the quay, the seafood streets plate the day’s catch with the film-set’s music still faintly audible – the island’s two industries, legend and fish, sharing the same evening air.
Practicalities
- Ferries run through the day from the Shenjiamen side; the island bus loops film set, coves and trailheads.
- The film city charges a combined ticket with the gorge walk; the peak trail is a half-day commitment either side of lunch.
- Blossom season is late March into April – the island’s single busiest fortnight.
- Weekend extras and shows fill the film city; weekday visits share the streets with only the props.

Once the island has had its legend, our Zhoushan food map fills the table.
flowcloud would say Taohua Island is a novel that learned to garden: the fiction built a town, the island grew the peaches to keep the name honest, and a mountain at the end makes sure nobody confuses the set with the sea. All checked November 2026.
Getting there: Taohua Island sits across the strait from Zhujiajian – ferries run through the day from the Shenjiamen side, the island bus loops the film-set, coves and trailheads, and the summit climb takes a half day either side of a seafood lunch. All checked November 2026.
