万州大瀑布 (Wanzhou dà pùbù) sits in Gānníng Town (甘宁镇) on the western fringe of Wanzhou District, Chongqing. It is billed as Asia’s widest single-drop waterfall — 151 metres wide and 64.5 metres high — and ranks among the signature natural sights of the Three Gorges hinterland.

A bamboo raft (竹筏) carries visitors out toward the base of the fall, close enough to feel the spray off the broad sheet of water. The short ride is the easiest way to take in the full width of the drop without craning your neck from the bank.

Behind the falling water runs a walk-through water curtain (水帘洞), where a rainbow often forms in the mist when the light is right. The sight is roughly a 45-minute drive from Wanzhou’s urban area, and the low morning sun before 10am gives the clearest, most even light on the face of the fall.
