Three Gorges Light (三峡之光情境夜游, Sānxiá Zhī Guāng Qíngjìng Yèyóu) is a 4A-rated (February 2023) night cruise departing from Jiuma Wharf (九码头) on Ningjiang Road: about an hour on the Yangtze in front of the county seat, during which the gorge walls themselves become the screen — a light-and-projection performance narrating the legend of the Goddess across the cliff faces. Tickets are 158 yuan in both seasons. It is the county’s evening product, the reason to spend a night in Wushan rather than pass through by day.
The format is situational theatre on a geological scale: the boat holds position in front of the lit cliff section while projections and coloured light play across the rock, the water carrying the reflections, and the narration — the Goddess legend, the gorge’s old stories — runs as the through-line. Because the “stage” is the actual Wu Gorge wall, the scale of the thing is the point: a story told at the size of the mountain it happened in.
The cruise is weather-sensitive in the friendly direction — a clear night is the product, and after rain the air is clearest. Board at Jiuma Wharf with time to spare; the departure is scheduled and the light show is timed to the boat’s position, so a late arrival misses the opening sequence. Locals pair it with the river-front dinner before boarding, making the whole evening one continuous riverfront block.
